Coco Stretch More?

So, I have a few strains I have worked with for a bit....enough to know their individual growth habits. I have been growing in Pro-Mix/Sunshine for a while now, but recently switched to Coco and noticed an across the board jump in my plants, i.e. Strain A can be flowered at 18" and will finish at about 30", Strain B can be flowered at appox. 18" and finish at 36", etc. Now they have been flowered in Coco at the same height and 3 wks into flower I have some that should have maxed out at 36" at least 5' tall ?!?!?! Is this a common trait? I could see how it could be, when I used to flower in ebb and flow tables, I could def. flower smaller plants to end up with the same finished height as my soil plants. It could be pretty awesome to flower 12" plants to end up with 36" as long as my yields didn't suffer.

Cheers

I hand water. They are in 5 gallon pots, everything is EXACTLY the same...though I prolly water every 2-3 days vs every 3-4 days in soil. I am not complaining, just curious.

Welcome to the world of AMAZING GROWTH. This was what convinced me to use coir instead of soil when growing indoors. I found that due to that explosive growth, post-flip stretch, that 2 week period, I've got to be very diligent about controlling the canopy.

I don't know how method of watering has an effect on this, so I'm curious to learn.

I also just switched from promix to coco, and noticed super growth in all stages. I have to get used to not taking my clones to early. My veg area is out of control, and the flowering ladies aren't near ready to be done. I'm not complaining either, I just have to get a new schedule on track.

Its all about the roots !!! roots are able to explode in coco . also once the roots are established in the coco ... you really can't over water them . the coco has a fantastic capability of holding D.O. , alot more than soil or promix . so with the coco's air holding capabilities & your feeding 2 to 3 times a day .... yeah they're gonna explode in growth for you :)

Dialled in coco is about twice+ everything the same size plant in soil will do, small plants along way from the HPS in coco will stretch much more than soil, one of the many reasons coco growers go vertical is to get a big plant quickly

So, should I start thinking about flipping them at say, 12"?

YES! In fact, if I have any that have exceeded that height, they're cut down to 12". Believe you me, they WILL make it up post-flip. I literally take a ruler and cut everything down to 12". I like them to hit 18", but they usually end up closer to 24", so I raise the lights. I do sea of green, 1gal pots, 16 pots/tray, 1 tray/600w HPS under a vertizontal parabolic hood. Cold is my problem, I usually only grow indoors during winter months and it's a basement location.
