Round Two: 80 clones taken. 10 of each female pheno.

Rockwool & heat pad method this time. Unfortunately my aero cloner is too loud for my current veg room.
I'm giving the smaller 1/2 inch rockwool cubes a go and so far I'm impressed. They dry out faster so need to keep a closer eye on them but they work just fine and take up less room.

You are gonna have your hands full soon :). Are you planning on transplanting into more RW or soil-less media? Ive tried rockwool in the past, and its always best to transplant into more RW, and not peat/lite media. Probably the same result in coco-coir. You end up with two very different moisture gradients. As you've noticed the RW dries out quickly. Faster than peat/lite or coco-coir. It made watering a real pita.

I know what you mean. My experience mixing rockwool cubes & other grow mediums thus far has always been towards the other end of the moisture spectrum. The rockwool stays soaked and gets algae and all other kinds of life forms growing on it.

With clay balls(hydrotron) flood & drain the rockwool worked great when sat on top of the medium but slightly too low in the medium; below the flood line and it gets too soaked and goes funky.

I'm probably going to be putting these clones into some type of flood & drain system and will plant them on top, above the flood line persistently top feeding the cubes and surrounding clay ball until the roots take hold. Preferably I'd use an aero cloner but rockwool suited the situation this time. In my experience a dry medium surface is a healthy one. I want all that funky biochemistry going on below the surface where it's dark and the oxygen and h2o are more consistantly replenished.
My preferred medium so far is clay balls with aero clones. CoCo is great but it's a bit too slow reacting/low maintenance for my liking. Bugs seem to like it a little too much also.

Thanks for chiming in dave always appreciated.

I think I have enough mothers/fathers now. A friend just gave me a bunch more clones Critical Jack Herer, Kandy Kush, Pineapple Express, Lavender (soma), Black Domina (sensi), Blue Widow (Dinafem),White Widow (Dinafem). It's going to get overgrown in there.

The Black Widow clones have all rooted nicely. I traded a few with my friend for the above.

I'll be planting the best 40 BW clones into ebb & flow trays. Stay Tuned.

Preparations for the next round. Reduced the size my old NFT table to accommodate my ebb & flow tray.

About to go up a level here so have been taking extra precautions. Can anyone guess what I'm doing here and why?

um maybe reducing the amount of supplies to place else where so can dump quickly? gunna run high numbers, sog?? or running in the 1L bottles so its easier to use instead of the bigger bottles??

Right on. Storing the larger nutrient containers away from the grows as a precaution along with my spare equipment. I now have a backup set of equipment in place if the men in blue decide to raid me. Has always been a personal goal for me to get a backup plan in place should shit hit the fan. A police raid wouldn't be as devastating for me now, just a bitch of setback and a possible criminal conviction. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best I say. :)

I'm in this for the long hall now. I've got a lot invested in my little operation and I'm willing to accept the consequences.

Going for 50+ clones in flower this time. SOG style.

I'm going to need more balls lol I want the flood line to be slightly below the surface so I get that nice dry grow medium surface.

I'm going to wash the balls several times with ph 5.8 water. gets rid of the dust and seems to make the roots take to them more easily.

It's .8mx.8m almost a 3x3. I do have another I'm thinking of setting up when I can make the space but going to see how many I can cram in. I flower them straight from clone so they don't get a chance to get too big.

Alas I still need more clay balls. I'm sure I've got more somewhere. Hate buying these things from the grow store need to organize a safe ride etc. I much prefer small items when foot journey & backpack can be used.

Res Prep

Res Prep

Firstly had to rinse the clay balls. Didn't take too much work. Rinsed through about 100 liters before the water came out clean.

picture.php

The next step is a bitch but well worth it in my opinion. I let plain phed 5.8 water run through the the hydrotron for an hour or so then adjust the res ph again to make sure the hydrotron is soaked with 5.8 water.
I then dump out this res and put in my first nute mix.

picture.php

Going with standard H&G chart feeding schedule. Starting with 75ml A & B for a 50 litre res. Multi enzyme additive starts the following week.

50+ clones planted just under the flood line, in my experience the cubes get pushed up above the flood line as the roots get bigger. Going to weed out anything that doesn't take off in the first week or so. Time to rock n roll.
