Roots Organic Coco Palms?

So my local shop gives me a free bag of Roots Organic Coco Palms to try out. Nice and silky stuff but I noticed what I thought were small pieces of Perlite. Not much, like maybe only a few small chunks per beer cup full.
But on closer inspection it seems those are tiny pieces of gray colored clay, not perlite. When you squeeze a piece between your fingers it has the consistency of almost dried clay.
Does anybody know if it is indeed clay? I'm guessing it's for the added Calcium?:dunno:
Maybe I'll shoot them an email...

:bump:
So I emailed Aurora Innovations about those little pieces and they said it's "organic calcium". I figured it was some kind of Calcium amendment.
If I'm not mistaken most calcium labeled as organic is usually lime or crushed eggshells? Carbonates?

I noticed the same thing in botinicare loose bagged coco. Not so much in the gold label and cana coco. Is it good, is it bad? IDK but I thought it was weird to find these little non coco specs.

I dont know anything about the palms coco, but I tried roots organic amended coco for the first time this round and wouldnt use it again if it was given to me for free. It was 50% perlite/50% Gnat larvae! Probably just the distributor it came from, but I didnt like the stuff anyway.

So far so good using the stuff. It's only been a week but so far so good.
I amend with perlite...
I don't mind the "organic calcium" but I wish they would print that on the bag.

My thinking is that the clay (organic calcium ) will take time to break down & become available to the plants (slow release) so watch for calcium build up later on in the grow evlme2 .maybe even cut out the calmag around the 4th week & just give them a little epsom salts instead .

I have never heard anything good about Roots Organics... Too many "innovations" are not what I am looking for...

Whats the general amount (tsp/gal) Epsom Salt to use?

100mg of epsom to a 1 liter bottle of water will give you a 1% solution & I used to dose that at 3 to 5ml per gallon of nutes . same as i would when adding calmag .

Sorry not trying to argue but I am pretty sure that a 1% w/v solution is 10g per liter. The 100mg stock solution of epsom salt is 0.1g/1000ml *100 which equals a 0.01% epsom solution. By using the stock solution at 5ml per gallon (3785.41ml) comes to a final epsom solution concentration of 132.1 ppm. (0.0001 g/l * 5ml)/3785.41ml=1.321*10^-7
