Production of resin explosions

BHO explosions are happening more and more in Canada these days, so I figured we should have a thread to document them as a warning for folks who might want to get into the process..

If you are an idiot, refrain from making BHO. Bubblebags are always safer- your water will likely not explode if your temps are less than 150 deg C. ;) If you have no experience handling solvents, you have no business making bho period.

Man burned, two arrested after explosion

A Cambridge man is in hospital with serious burns and two others have been arrested following a drug-related explosion at an Arthur White Drive home 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Emergency officials were called after receiving reports of an explosion in the home. Upon arrival, they found the 38-year-old man and was sent him to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, but later moved to Hamilton General Hospital for treatment.

After further inspection, police arrested two occupants of the Galt home. Fire marshall officials blamed the explosion on use of butane fuel, a flammable substance used in production of cannabis resin. An investigation concluded the extraction process was in progress when the explosion happened.

Fire marshalls warn that the fuel is highly dangerous as it can spark sources of ignition in the home such as natural gas. Anyone engaging in this type of activity places themselves and others at a high level of risk.

Anyone noticing suspicious activity is urged to contact police at 519-653-7700. To leave a tip about drug activity, call 519-650-8500, extension 8612 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Drugs may be to blame

BY HEATHER POLISCHUK, LEADER-POST AUGUST 31, 2012

The production of cannabis resin is a risky activity and police say that risk was made obvious last weekend when a house exploded in northwest Regina.

According to information from the Regina Police Service, members of the Regina Fire Department had responded to a fire and an explosion at a residence on the 1100 block of North Blanchfield Street on Saturday evening. A 30-year-old man suffered what were described as "significant burn injuries" and he was taken by EMS to hospital where he remained as of late Thursday afternoon.

In the course of dealing with the fire on Saturday evening, fire crews discovered signs of "possible drug activity" and asked that police come to the scene shortly after 7: 30 p.m.

Police said their preliminary investigation found the explosion might have resulted from the production of cannabis resin.

"The allegation is that there was production of cannabis resin in the house and that through that process, that triggered the explosion and fire," said city police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich.

Police seized evidence at the scene - including "a large quantity" of marijuana - and arrested a 31-yearold Regina woman who was said to be living at the house at the time.

That woman, Tara M. Miller, faces charges of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and production of cannabis resin. She made her first appearance at Regina Provincial Court earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old man is likely to face charges once he is released from hospital, police said.

"At the moment, obviously his health care, his injuries are the priority but there will come a point where in the investigation we're evaluating whether or not he'll be facing charges," Popowich said. "At this point, it seems likely that he will."

No one else was present in the house at the time of the explosion and no other properties are believed to have suffered significant damage as a result, Popowich said.

"Among the information gathered through the investigation, the neighbours were certainly aware of initially the noise, the sound of the explosion, and then just the chaos that followed that with people running out of the house and so on," she said.

Popowich said she could not comment on how prevalent the production of cannabis resin or hash oil is within the city, stating that "we only know what we detect."

"Through an event as dramatic as this one, it would be pretty difficult to hide, but what about the operations where there isn't ignition and a fire?" she said. "We may not know about those ever, so I can't really tell you how common it is."

WOW epic epic fail lol they were smoking beside it too also I heard the guy say they used 70 percent iso rofl its idiots like this that give us a bad name

Yeah the smoking was epic-dumb, more for concern though was the gas-stove they were using to evaporate.

That wasn't even an explosion, the bowl shattered from the direct heat of the gas-flame from the stove on the cold pyrex.

There's more than one way to fuck-up making oils when you are an idiot. More reason many folks should use bubblebags.

All this is why many med-legal regions are moving to ban super concentrates.

OH HAHAHhahahahha

What a bunch of damn morons!!!!! These are the idiots that give 'normal' non-smoking individuals reason to think that everyone who uses cannabis and it's extracts is a stupid moronic burn-outs.

I mean they have the damn GAS BURNING STOVE on while the are playing with the stuff and talking and then smoking around it...oh...just so many things wrong with this I almost thought it was a joke until the end there when they went BOOM!!

It can be so easy....

Outside well ventilated
crock pot....no double boilers, no hot plates...no open heat source. crock pot/ rice cooker is the way to go....( had to edit this..didn't see someone said hot plate).......they work although the crock pot may be a bit safer. Either method as long as you're not 'those guys'!! ROFL
NO OPEN FLAMES!!!!!!!

just those few simple rules should avoid 90% of any BOOMS!!

just my two cents...

I wouldnt say there idiots ,as this has happened to me and im no idiot . I was using a electric stove /fan and open window i had walked up quickly to the stove leaned over to shut it off when Boom right in my face i pulled the pot off the stove and placed it on the floor , through a towel over it to put out the fire . My brother came in and tended to the pot as i went to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and whiped the skin off my lip it was not pretty .
I went to the hospital with 1st and 2nd degree burns tellign them i blew up the BBQ. they treated me and it healed beautiful .

I had made oil on the stove like this for many years before this happened. Ive made it many years since then but now i dont use elements on the stove And I defently couldnt imagine using an open flame on a gas stove.

But i have found using an electric cast iron skillet or or electric cast iron fry pan works great out on the deck . Dont use the other pans that you get at walmart with the black coating as the coating will come off when scraping out your oil . Use cast iron .

You can find electric cast iron pans at most thrift stores for $5

Good luck and reserch the safty tip with anything your doing

Sorry man you may be smart guy but if you think making BHO indoors even in a ventilated room is safe then I don't really know what to tells yah...sorry!

Bottom line BHO should only be made outside.

Great post.

I honestly believe in natural selection....
I also think, it is really to bad that non-smoking people assume every smoker is the same.

Its a shame some of the explosions are not bigger.
