Sweet Tooth #3 - Mother hunt

I received about three packs of SWT#3 from the boo as freebies a year ago or two with a few orders I placed.

Ive been reading a lot about these seeds that they were inspected from bulk and so on, and so on so I decided to do a run with it in search for a good non-autoflowering mom. Not sure if it will work out or not but we are going to give it a go. Ive read these seeds are 9 years old or so which makes them the oldest in my collection, so I thought I better get to cracking them.

Im popping 8 beans, which leaves me with 8 more in the fridge in case this run doesnt work out.

I just put some AK47 in my flowering tent so I have a good 7-9 weeks or so before Ill be able to flower these SWT3's. I figure Im going to put them in 1 gallon pots, right off the bat and let them veg, they will probably stay rootbound for a bit before I transplant into their final 3 gallon flowering containers. Any that autoflower on me will be avoided since Im looking for a maintainable mother.

Any that dont go auto on me will be kept and flowered out. Ill keep the best male that doesnt auto flower, to make more seeds as well. Im really interested in keeping this strain since Ive heard so many good things about it. If I dont get a non-auto male and female from these 8, Ill pop the other 8. If I dont get it from the other 8 ........ game over lol.

The details:

Today I placed 8 beans to be popped with the paper towel method, placed on a 78-83 deg spot on top of a T5 fixture.

Plants will go in 1 gallon pots of promix ammended with EWC from my worm bin, extra perilite ammended wtih blood, bone, kelp, greensand and lime.

Vegged under a hydrofarm 4' x 6 bulb fixture to stay there until the flowering room becomes vacant as mentioned above.

Will flower in 3 gallon containers, in a SJ DR120 with a 600HPS digi.

I wanted to get this log up now to keep track of my dates and get any input from IC I can, there seems to be some people with a ton of knowledge on these seeds.

gl with getting them to pop. I wonder if they will still have vigor to produce bud or if they would only be good for breeding?

Thanks guys. You know ... I could shoot myself I swear...I popped one of these seeds 6 weeks ago when I started my ss ak47 that I have going now. Not only did it pop in two days...but I was very vigorous and STINKY! However...it was a male and I tossed it. Then I go and read about how old these seeds are and all that jazz....if I would have known I would have kept it for sure. Regardless... I'm sure if that one popped these will too. That male had the prettiest purple striped stems too.... hope I get another!

Good luck! I hope they all germinate for you. Had spice of life ST#3 many years ago outdoors and was some of the best of the bunch. Had two phenos...dark green super lush purple stems...and a lighter fruitier with slight sativa traits. They were beasts.

Thanks for stopping buy guys. I've got high hopes for these seeds. I checked on them today and my fixture got to hot. They spent about 3.5 hours at 98 degrees! I sprayed them with room temp water which brought them right down to 80 and then I found a better location that is keeping them at around 80-85 degrees. I'm hoping the few hours at high temps didn't hurt them.... who knows it might have even jump started them (hopefully). Regardless, one of them looks to be cracking and trying to poke a tail out already.

With a little luck ill be able to give you guys a show! I'm half tempted to put the other 8 in there too and just do a full seed run.

Normally I wouldn't update this much on mere seed cracking .... but since the seeds are a large part of what's so questionable about this strain (due to their age) I figure I would keep everyone informed.

Im happy to say this mornings check revealed that 4 out of the 8 have cracked ... with one pushing a tail out already. :dance013::dance013:

:woohoo:

All but two of the seeds have cracked. Its a little early to tell but I have a feeling they are stalling .. they have cracked but arent pushing tails. Usually it seems like once they crack tails come shortly after and its been two days with no tails.

To be safe.... I put my remaining 8 seeds in there with them in an attempt to ensure I have some plants to work with. I have a good location selected with a constant 80-85 degrees so should be optimum temps for germination.

sweet tooth is a great strain!! ive done it outdoors for years and is fat and heavy and very healthy. ive done all the sweet tooth versions (#1,#2,#3, #4) but the best version is sweet tooth #1, but is hard to find. Happy growing!

@ozz: i got blessed with a cut from a good friend that i now have as a mother bonsai. Shes a real keeper so if u get one id keep a cut "pheno pending".

Id have to say Spice Of Lifes SWT#4 has been the best buy far. Its what i keep in my headstash jar or fof social events. My patients go crazy for it :tiphat:

Sweetgrapefruit sugary goodness is how i sum up SWT#4

Thanks for the input guys. Its interesting to hear everyones experiences with the strain.

So far 5 out of 16 have broken ground. One of which is starting to develop its first set of leaves. 4 out of those 5 have sprouted really weird, their taproots are shooting out of the ground growing up in the air and turning back down. Almost like they are growing upside down.

This may be because I didnt get the seeds put in the holes properly I dont know. With each one Ive taken them completely out of the dirt and re-situated them right side up and buried the taproot properly. It seems to be working but so far they dont seem all that vigorous so Im not sure how this is going to turn out.

We'll see ...:tumbleweed:

Nice looking plants NE ... Im hoping these guys pull through. You can tell they have definately lost some vigour in terms of sprouting.

Its so weird too because the other one I planted sprouted like nobody's business... of course now that I know the seeds are old ... they are acting like it

Im guessing Ill have 2 or 3 out of what has popped up so far... none of the others have broken ground yet.

So Ill just wait ...

Out of 16 seeds I got 5 to germinate and break ground. All of which seem very fragile but they are growing so I should have 5 sweet tooth plants to work with.

The 5 SWT are in the back, also seen are two dinafem blue widow and an AK47 clone. Their not real happy .. but I think that will change once they get a little more root mass developed.

Thanks man. As mentioned I ended up with 5 plants out of 16 seeds. Im happy since the seeds are so damn old.

Anyway here are the babies an hour or so after transplant into their 5x5 pots. Theres one still in a solo cup thats a straggler... Im not sure how it will turn out it may turn around it may not. Im fully expecting these to take off now though, that they are in pots with some ferts. Heres to hoping for a female!!

If not Ill take the best male and let him do the dirty with an AK 47 clone. I hear good things about that cross ;)

Well, let the show begin. Out of 16 seeds I ended up with these four plants.

They are doing well. I took cuttings off the three biggest just now and put it under 12/12 to sex em. I'm about 90%sure I see female preflowers on the largest one and pretty sure I'm seeing them on the second largest but its still a little early to tell. Once sex is confirmed ill take cuttings off the females and transplant them getting ready to flower them. The cuttings will stay behind to act as moms (well... the favorite anyway).

Ill keep the best male around to pollinate a lower branch on the sweet tooth girls as well as a clone off my ak47 mom.

Hopefully with my next update things will start getting interesting. I'm gonna need your help on the pollination. sounds simple enough from my research but I've never done it before either.
