Torrentz and your karma

Ever since i reviewed my karma policy 3 years ago i stopped downloading music and movies...

I found that second hand 1 dollar DVDs on amazon are very good

But recently talked to a friend about downloading movies and he said: i can download those movies which were shown on public TV SINCE you can RECORD THEM, so imagine the torrent as simply a recording, and therefore karma neutral, i find that logic sound but part of me is still puzzled so i made this thread :joint:

DOWNLOAD; DOWNLOAD;DOWNLOAD....

yes it's true you can record...... but you to have the service comcastr/tivo/direct tv/dish.... if you don't have a service that has the recording feature, then theres no difference.

I download 90% of the stuff I watch, so take what i say with a grain of salt.

if your talking about KARMA, and RIGHT and WRONG...

you've missed the point.

by the way, trying to fit something in a box, still makes it whatever it is... in a box

yes, I think your the first to recognize that..

I stole that logo without permission, and downloaded a bunch of there cd's too..

didn't mean to come off rude.. just do what you want, don't think, thinking is for not knowing...

I DL shit all the time, why? because I wouldn't buy it otherwise.. then I spread the word on how it was. Who else would be lucky enough for people to want your shit, they go out of there way to get it.. that in itself, they should be grateful for. DL is publicity, and if they want there money so bad, lower the pricing so all can afford it.. simple enough

second, they charge to much, and this is coming from someone who doesn't think about money..

third, I support them enough. I go to the movies every so often, I know I put money in DiCaprio's pocket.. he earned it, good actor.

Do your torrents come with commercials? If not, then no, it isn't the same as recording a program off of TV. If yes, then you're downloading the wrong torrents. Similarly, how much of the money you spend on a used CD/DVD goes toward the folks who own the copyrights to that media? Absolutely none of it. There is no financial difference between buying a used CD, a bootleg CD, or downloading an album, as far as the copyright holder is concerned. The recording/movie industries have just as much contempt for used sales and DVRs as they do for file sharing, it's just that the law told them they couldn't prohibit sales of used media or DVR/VCR recording (and they certainly tried). Plenty of industry insiders will tell you that the RIAA and the MPAA are the biggest thieves going.Absolutely none of which is to say that downloading copyrighted material is ever going to fall on the right side of an ethics argument, just that the question is more complicated than it appears on the surface.
