Having heat issues 1 x 600 in a 5 x 5

Hey folks.

I just switched from an adjust-a-wing reflector to a bare ver bulb.
My canopy temps were previously around 80 with a strong little pc fan blowing at the bulb and blowing the heat out from under the reflector. This morning I switched to vert and my temps are about 93-94 right now. I do have a Honeywell Blizzard fan directly below the bulb (about 12" below) blowing at low speed, and my carbon filter is over my bulb...I have a 6" vortex exhaust and a cpule 6" passive intakes. I was running the vortex without a speed controller, I just added one and will play around with that. I thought I'd have no heat issues at all in a 5 x 5. Any tips would be greatly appreciated...TIA.

Move more air, bringing in more cool and fresh or create cooling with a/c or swmper. Good luck. Peace GS

run the exhaust full speed and add active intake....
when I used to run tents I would put the scrubber outside of the tent with the exhaust fan dumping into the scrubber/sucking air out of the room.
This way the heat doesn't hang up as much in the rooms near the exhaust.

If you are exhausting directly outside then the scrubber needs to be in the grow room with the fan sucking through it (factor in 30% CFM loss for scrubber when sizing exhaust/scrubber)

Also try running the lights at night if you aren't already.

Actually I have extra 6" vortex on hand. How about if I run the 6" exhaust full blast and have a 6" vortex intake on low speed?

Does anyone know if the Honeywell Blizzard is good for the fan blowing at the light?

I am exhausting just back into the room, the ambien temps are in the 70's somewhere...house ac running.

are you just recycling air in the room that the tent is in? gotta bring in fresh air and exhaust the old out of the room

Yes, I am just recycling the air, but this worked just fine with the reflector set up. I don't have the option of venting out, and the ambient temps are good. I'd say low 70's even high 60's...the temps went up 13-15 degrees when I ditched the reflector.

Ok so now I have a 6" vortex intake, with a speed controller set on the lowest setting. Exhaust is a 6" vortex on full blast, carbon filter pretty much right above the light...temps have dropped from 93 down to 86...

Hope I can tweak er down to 80ish. Might try a different fan under the light. My reflector with a pc fan was giving me canopy temps in the 80 range...one of my plants won't be happy in higher temps either. If I can't get er down to 80ish tonight I'm goin back to my adjust-a-wing...didn't expect a 13-15 degree increase im temps by ditching the adjust-a-wing.

UPDATE: actually I just tried a different thermometer, and I'm getting low 70's. I hope I can find a 3rd one around the house then I'll know which one is more likely to be right...but it makes no sense it would be that hot (93 - 95) to me...

I've run 1200w in a 5x5 with a 6" exhaust and bare bulbs, perhaps the lung room is too small and hot? or you have a bad thermometer maybe?? Perhaps you are in a heatwave?

I also run my scrubber as described above, the fan and filter are outside the tent vacuuming out the hot air, try it, beats hanging all that shit in the tent. stick a few fans up there to keep your canopy air moving. I've never needed active intakes in my tents to run about 4-5 degrees warmer than lung room air.

good luck!

where should I be measuring for canopy temps in a vert? Right now I have the temp probe right at the top of the plant, the bottom of the bulb is about in line with the top of plants.

I'm off to get another thermometer, too much difference between the two.

thanks for the help...

Ok I added a 8 to 6 reducer on my honewell, and my temps are down to 81 on the thermometer which read in the mid 90s earlier in the day...I went out and grabbed a 3rd thermometer and it's reading 77.5 while the 2nd one is reading 72...so I'm gonna go with the middle reading. I think we're set, now time to think about adding a 2nd bulb perhaps.
