Electricity Meters?...Please Help.

Hey guys,I need some help and advise from people who know a thing or two about reading electricity bills..cus I dont..

Ok,so since I moved,I have been getting VERY high bills..we dont even use water heaters,etc..in the old home we had 3 a.c's 24/7..water heater..we would take alot of hot showers,etc...

and still the bills were ~150~200~..a month..depending on time of year,etc..sumemr is more obvisly..

ok..so we move into this new house....we dont have a water heater, the only thing running is a powerful living room windowbanger....and my 400hps/ac setup...nothing major..

so were here literally less than a month, and we get the first bill of 250!....

I thoughth that someone was stealing our lighth..so I did a check today, and nothing..its our usage..so here are my questions...

1.How much is 2657kwh translated to watts...this month's bill is 2657kwh....

2.How much is 83kwh to watts...the daily use is 83kwh...

3.What is Fuel and non-fuel prices??

And now my most important question..the main culprit was the window a.c....with it on.the kwh was 5.06..WITHOUT IT ON,the kwh was 2.1....so that a.c was pulling ~2.92 kwh....

this a.c was running full blast 24/7....so thats roughly 3000 watts righth??...i made the math..and that is whats behind the 83 daily usage...

2.92x24=70....so am I righth to assume that now without that damn a.c on..our lighth bill will literally be cut more than half???....that a.c alone was more than half the usage,so the bills will go down with it off?...2.9kwh= 2900watts??

my rate is 0.06 cents...

thank you all for helping in advance..jsut hate these stupid monopolies.. :comfort:

Sorry I can't extrapolate all your inquiries but 6 cents a killowatt hour times 2657 killowatt hours is $159.42. You probably have taxes, fees and whatever they're allowed to add to the price.

Some states allow utilities to to charge a stipend up front that wanes as you pay your bill. Might have something to do with credit rating or new service, etc.

If you're only rocking a 400 I wouldn't vent the heat outside the home because you're venting the ac along with it.

I can't help with the math either ... but here in NY we're fighting our utility company because their delivery charge is higher than the actual usage . this was never the case till this new company took over a few years ago & it has people here hopping mad !!! myself included . they have us by the balls cuz theres no other companies able to supply us . except for solar is now becoming big if you own & can front the initial expense .
my last bill was 285$ the delivery charge was 166$ . the rest was actual usage cost of 119$

somewhere on your bill (if its itemized ) should be the cost breakdown for the kilowatt hrs used .... i know mine does .

sorry for ranting in your thread :)

Fuel vs non-fuel pricing is probably based on how the electricity was generated and the portions of each that the utility is buying/generating. For instance, it costs more to generate power with natural gas than it does for hydroelectric. You probably have some sort of tier pricing set up - the more you use, the more expensive it gets. 6 cents per kwh is unbelievably cheap - that is just over half what I pay, and we have decent rates. Kwh is a thousand watts utilized for one hour, so 83kwh daily usage is about 3500 watts running 24 hours a day.

we have tier pricing..and also a monopoly..they charge stupid little fees like storm fees,etc...its all a big scam...now im sweating balls cus I had to turn the ac off..

the bills says :\\

customer charge:5.90

Fuel:$105

[first 1000kwh at $0.03]
over 1000kwh at $0.04]

nono-fuel: $155.00

first 1000 at 0.05
over 1000 at 0.06

what does all this shit mean..i was using 3500 watts a day???...

my concern is cutting the bill in half...with the ac plugged in it was 5.06kwh..with it off it is 2.1kwh..so the ac was pulling 2.92kwh..or 2900watts 24/7..is that correct??

thats gives me a monthly cost of JUST the a.c at 116.00...?

2900 watts per hour is 2.9kwh. 2.9 x .06 = .174 or 17.4 cents per hour. .174 x 24 hours = $4.176 per day, so an average 30 day month is 4.176 x 30 = $125.28 before you break into the tier pricing.

It's hard to say with the tier pricing, time of use, etc. As Disco pointed out, your total bill based on a straight 6 cents/kwh should only be around $159. But if all other things remain constant and you pull out 83% of your usage (2.9/3.5=.83), you should see a hell of a drop.

The way I read it is anything over 1000kwh you are paying 10 cents. (For me it's 11 cents).
That's a $260 bill you're showing, before a few service charges...
Or am I mis-understanding your question?
