Hey everyone,

This is the start of my growlog.

Ill be running Serious Seeds AK47 and a single SWT #3 with fingers crossed that its a female.

4x2 tent (SJ)
400w HPS
4' x 4 bulb T5 mounted horizontally on the back wall for side lighting.
424 cfm 6" growbright fan
3 gallon pots
Promix HP with 15-20% worm castings, 15-20% perilite +/-, and blood, bone, kelp, greensand, and lime added for good measure.

Put seeds in damp washcloth on July 9th, all four popped July 10th, I snapped off one of the tap roots while removing it from the washcloth and thats why I planted the lone swt #3 (all four were originally AK 47)

The plants are currently in 5"x5" pots of promix feeding with fish emulsion and under a spare 4' x 4 bulb T5 for veg at 24/0.

Looking for an AK mum so Im crossing my fingers Ill get something good. As little as these guys are, the room already stinks and they are still only around 3-4"!

Thanks bud, I appreciate the comments.

So these guys are trucking right along .... blowing up day by day. Im considering topping them. Im looking to finish them at around 2.5' so I was thinking I would flip them at around 12" or so.

Ive never grown AK before though and Ive heard some strains dislike being topped.

To top, or not to top ... that is the question. What do you all say??

I have grown AK 47 twice and both were serious seeds. This plant loves to be topped. :) I use the same soil and the AK loves it I just plain RO water with ACT every 3rd or forth. I have found Two very different phenotypes. The first grows very fast. Strecteches like crazy when you flower. I have not grown this one all the way to amber trichs so I can't say how potent it will be but at six-seven weeks not any real smeel no real buz.
The second phenotype is AWSOME. planst grows fast branches like crazy loves being toped and clones fast too. When fininshied she has a sweet almost cherry smell and tast. When you let a joint sit in your truck for a few hours it will stink like an onion?? Wild.
LOVE AK47. Not sure if the current seeds going around are anygood. My good AK is from 2008 my crappy AK is from last month.

Thanks for the input. I've heard that most of the good ak was from several years ago, these seeds were bought just under a year ago.... hopefully they aren't all junk :/

Either way ill top em then though.... they are about 5-6 nodes right now so a good time to do it I'm thinking. Hopefully ill get something nice out of em but I'm a little disappointed because I keep hearing that! lol... I have 5 more beans I think I'm going to pop em and run them all in smaller pots to increase my chances of getting something decent. Anyone run any ak beans recently?? How'd it turn out for ya?

My AK from a few years ago liked being topped. One thing i noticed is they all looked kinda week in veg but turned out awesome, so save cuttings from everyone. Sorry to hear that fresh AK 47 seeds arnt as good. Weird. I just got AK 48 cuts so we will see how these do

UPDATE

They are doing well, I topped them a few days ago or so and after taking a close look at them this evening I noticed my most healthiest looking plant looks like it has balls.

Now, Ive only got one grow under my belt .... but these plants are in veg still under 24 hours of light. How is it one could be showing sex already? They are only about a month from seed.

Can anyone confirm that this plant is in fact male from these pics?? This is the only plant showing anything definitive, the others dont have anything noticeable. Also, Im thinking I need to transplant soon into their final containers. I was going to veg them out another few weeks to 12 inches or so but I probably should get them into their final containers so they can spread their roots.

Can anyone tell me if this plant pictured below is a male. Im certain it is but wouldnt mind a second opinion before I toss it. Keep in mind its in veg right now under 24/0 so I didnt think it should be showing sex at all.

The beans popped July 10th so that makes them just about 4 weeks old from seed.

I transplanted the other three plants into 1 gallon containers as the roots were starting to circle a bit in their 5"x5" pots. I left the suspect male in a 5x5" pot until I can get confirmation its male.

I havent decided what size of containers to use. Ild like to finsih them around 2-2.5'. I have 1.5 gal air pots on the way but that may be a bit small. I also have 3 gallon hydrofarm buckets but those are probably to big lol ...

Anyway heres some pics, if anyone could confirm sex on this guy (I think) Ild really appreciate it.

Heres a pic of the whole setup. 400w HPS aircooled with a 424 cfm growbright that will pull through the scrubber. I havent got the scrubber installed yet as you can see.

I have a 4 bulb 4' T5 unit mounted horizontally. I was thinking Ill switch it on the last 3 weeks or so of flower if I can keep the temps in check. I did some test runs and it seemed ok.

As mentioned, I think those 3 gallon buckets are going to be too big, but the 1.5 gallon airpots are probably a bit small so Ill have to make a decision soon. Maybe Ill just buy some 2 gallon airpots lol.

Yes your plant with the sacks is a full blown MALE. it is normal for some males to show first. I would think about saving this male if it has some good traits like smell, speed, stuctrure, what ever you look for, but having a male can be awsome for making our oun beans!!!! just make sure you keep it away from your flower room it will continue to flower and drop pollen even under 18-6.

Thanks for the input guys. I thought it was but wanted to be sure. Upon closer inspection it looks like I'm seeing female prefers on the other two so at least ill have two AK females to work with. I'm not sure on the sweet tooth yet but time will tell since its about a week behind the others. I just topped it last night.

Also... I sold my magnetic 400 and ordered a lumatek dimmable 400 to replace it.

They are doing well, I topped them a few days ago or so and after taking a close look at them this evening I noticed my most healthiest looking plant looks like it has balls.

1 of my 3 AK's was a dude, and it was the most vigorous of the bunch as well, despite being over fed.

All 3 were topped at day 21, and I over nuted resulting in an N abundance and a couple of shitty looking plants. I adjusted, and they sprang back, with the male putting out the most growth. They all began to show preflowers under 24/0 around day 41 or so, and sure as hell, the most vigrorous of the bunch turned out to be a dude.

Disappointing, to say the least, but just like Meatloaf said back in the day, "2 out of 3 aint bad....."

Best of luck to you.

Thanks and that's interesting to hear. Its still early but I think I might be seeing balls on my lone sweet tooth. Ill wait to see but if that's the case then that leaves me with only two AK girls to work with.

oh well... I only popped four beans afterall and ill just put them in the 3 gallon pots and veg them a bit longer. I might keep this male to pollinate a lower bud or two.... am I safe if I keep him under 24/0 or do I still need to worry about him dropping pollen? BTW.... he's grown about eight new balls since yesterday so definitely male lol

Since Im certain that Im seeing female preflowers on two of the AK 47's, I decided to transplant into their final 3 gallon containers. They have responded quite nicely to the topping a week ago or so and the bottom tops have shot up towards the top of the plant. The lower tops are still a bit below the top though so Im considering topping them again to allow the lower shoots to catch up for an even canopy that has 8-10 tops per plant.

One plant currently has six tops, the other 8. The only thing is it seems I loose about a week from topping... for the plant to recover and continue growing. I dont mind vegging for another 3 weeks if need be I guess.

The sweet tooth is not definitive, but I have a feeling its a male. Also, I think Im going to hold on to this AK male and stick it in the garage under 12/12 flouros once the females go into flowering to collect pollen for use on one of the clones I took from each female.

On a side note, here is another 4'x2' tent Im using for my Sally (Im in a sally legal state).

Blosser and Oaxacan strains. Started from one plant of each and cloned... and cloned... and cloned. They are doing well and LOVE the T5's. In promix with used coffee grounds, worm castings and fed with fish emulsion every fourth watering or so and from time to time some liquid kelp and/or neptunes fish/seaweed.

So the two AK girls are just over 5 weeks veg from seed, and have been in their final 3 gallon containers for about a week to establish roots. Im going to put them into flower on Sunday and let the show begin :woohoo::peacock:

Im curious on the stretch but I have enough room to accomodate them if they stretch a full 2 - 2.5' on top of their height now... so I should be good to go.

Im really anxious its been quite awhile since my last (first grow) which went really well.

Im already trying to decide on which beans to start popping for the next grow. This is the gear I have on hand.... what do you guys think I cant make up my mind what I wanna run next.

Magenta 99
Skunk#1xHaze
Deep chunk X sour diesel
Jackberry
Anesthesia
Northern lights special
Soma Rockbud
AK 47 (I have 5 more beans I could keep rocking the AK looking for the best mom)
Sweet tooth #3
Blue widow
Heavy duty fruity
Darkstar
Hashplant X haze
Dairy Queen
Chernobyl
Super Skunk

Anyone have any votes? lol

UPDATE: Day 2 of 12/12

Theres been some new developments. Im all over the place. I decided to set up my DR120 4x4 and I went out and bought a bunch of insulated ducting and did a whole new install of my room.

As it sits Im using the DR120W 4x2 with a hydrofarm 4' x 6 bulb T5 for moms, veg, and clones and the DR120 4x4 for flowering with the 400w HPS. I have a 600w HPS that I could swap out after a few weeks if need be.

The thing is though... this tent is a monster. Its way to big for my spare bedroom (rooms 10x12), it looks completely obnoxious. Im seriously thinking of going with two 4x2's with T5's instead of the HPS. As mentioned, I dont need much smoke and a QP per harvest is plenty and I certainly think T5's can deliver that in a 4x2 tent. For now though... this girl will be finished out in the 4x4 under the current 400... or maybe Ill switch to the 600 after awhile.

They have a little leaf curl (I slightly overwatered since they got transplanted up), and I think Im going to hit 'em with a good shot of N at next watering as I think they need it. Probably some fish emulsion mixed with fish/seaweed.

... they sure do seem to like the switch though :dance013::dance013:
