How to preserve smell and taste during drying?

I'm pretty sure I know what causes this problem when the obvious has been taken into account: the growing temperature, particularly in the last few weeks.

I've had a similar problem but by fluke I found out right away it wasn't the strain because I grew some both indoors and outdoors the first grow.

My outdoor would be dank and the indoor would be like cat food or some shit, tasteless. Still strong and get you high but tasteless with little smell.

I tried everything, all the stuff people already said here, proper flush different nutes etc etc and have come to the conclusion it's the temperature during growing, it's way too high due to my crappy conditions.

I think the terpenes are just boiling off in high temps while growing so there's really not much left by the time you harvest.

Winter weed grown indoors always tastes better and it's way lower temps growing in winter.

Also the LED growers often make a point of how much tastier and better smelling the weed is than when the same clones were grown previously under HPS and they often attribute it to lower temps as the LED's radiate far less heat to the plants.

It smells at harvest because it's got some freshly produced terpenes, probably keeps making them for a while after it's cut and hanging in the dark. No more heat burning them off so it reeks during the cure, problem is that's all there really is in it, anything produced while growing in the heat under hot lights burned off.

The problem is too much airflow. A little airflow is good, too much will cause the smells to literally evaporate away, leaving only the offensive ones. A good type of place to dry in would be for example a wooden cabinet with a sheet hanging over the opening, and a small fan extracting air from the bottom. When they are properly dried cut the buds off and seal them in jars.

i wet trim down to the buds and they dry on screens. this last run i kept the humidity of the drying room upwards of 55-60% for the first 3 days and then down to about 40-45% until the stems snap. everything was much stickier and the smell was definitely present. i was told once that the buds cant cure if theres no moisture in them. after they are decently dry, but still damp, i jar them and burp twice a fay. final product is sticky and smelly.

Someone has already mentioned that you just might have something that had no smell. Did you mention what you were growing? I do just about all the "Simon" teaches, it works but sounds like you're doing everything alright. I use a dehydrator a lot also but mostly on water cured. Change what you're growing.

the #1 cause is harvesting when the plants are not ready.... If all of the leaves are still green shes not ready IMO..

interesting discovery. That makes sense for me cause i noticed that at night the plant smells a lot more than during a day

sometimes mine stinks other times it seems almost smell less.dunno why. it does change through the drying process i think and depewnds when you catch it / smell it.

I agree. Sometimes the bud is just immature even though trichs are cloudy/ambered. Some sativas keep adding and adding after.

I also found that buds when I used to grow under 400w lamps were more prone to less smell. Once I switched to 1000w lamps and let my sativas go ALMOST too long and with low temps, STANK DANK was rampant!

The more small tweaks you make each grow will lead you to find the right process for your area. Good luck and peaceful chiefs to all!!

You may be drying it too much, too quickly. From my experience, if it gets too dry, you do not get a cure. Needs to have the correct moisture content for the curing to happen.

i dont agree... im harvesting my first crop in summer.. so temps are 40+ celsium and my buds reek...

only cause is too quick drying.. thats it.. 5 days seem to me too quick... at least week in cold, dark room with good airflow..
