Loose bags of coco make me nervous. No personal experience but I've heard stories of things like root aphids and other bugs being introduced into grows via loose coco such as canna...

A little powdered DE mixed into the coco is great for killing any critters & gives you the added silica for plant strength & frostyness
even though i've been using canna for over a year now with no signs of any critters .

If you're in the USA then Canna is the best, although not very 'green' as it's bagged up in Holland then shipped to the US, but quality control there is very good

In the UK, then Plant Magic coco is the best IMHO .... ground up differently, here in the UK, the texture is lighter and used with their nutrient range unbeatable

It's the only product range specifically 'designed' around growing MJ using tap water in the UK

Beside's soaking coco to get rid of any salt's built up in there... anyone try running some Azamax/Gnatrol prior to using it to kill any larvae or bug's that may already be in the soil?

Another vote for the Botanicaire 5g bricks.

I haven't ever tested the runoff, but after expanding it with water and a not so decent flush with 1.2 EC, 5.8 ph feed, I've never had any problems. As somebody mentioned about it earlier, it's real fluffy and doesn't compact...exactly what I look for in coco.

Tyga all that stuff is fair game while flushing. I haven't tried the Azamax yet but I do like to run some h202 or SM-90 through it and all my nute mix has mosquito dunkage in it....

straight out of the bag. cut with a little perlite and a little Mykos

like i said in an earlier post.....

when i open the bag, i take a beer cup and fill it up

run RO water through it (24ppm) and the runoff from that first cup outta the bag has NEVER been over 50ish ppm

ive prolly been through 50 bags give or take and they have all been exactly the same

fuck cutting it with perlite..coco straighth is the shuit..as for bagged coco..i dont like it..whos to say their any critters in it??quality control does have its faults..buy a 5kg brick..pour boiling water on it to sterilize..and thats it..there wont be any critters in bricked up coco.....

also i dont like mycos...when I broke up the old coco from a recent grow ..i had used mycos..and all the mold spores had me coughing for two days straighth..fuck mycos unless your runnin organics...

dutchmaster nutrients does NOT recommend myco's..since high salt levels will just kill them...i say keep it simple..straighth quality nutes..some additives [liquid karma, liquid seaweed,mollases]..and thats it

I really like the GoldLabel coco.:good:
Me and my friends are growing on that medium for years allready.
They really flush that coco down and afterwards they buffer it with calcium nitrate.

Any experience with these brands?

Roots Organics Soilless Coco Mix
Rasta Bob's Coco Fiber
Organic Coco Planting Chips

How do the chips compare to the brick? My local hydro store only has Botanicare bricks and bales, but a quick search turned up a hydro store across town that has Canna. Is it worth the drive across town ($5-6 in gas) to get Canna coco instead of Botanicare?

Planning to use 100% coco in 2 or 3 gal smartpots with blumats. Are chips better than brick in any way? I am also considering 80% coco 20% perlite if I go with 3 gal smartpots??? A lot of people say straight coco is the best but a lot of people cut it with perlite???
