One last time...should I use Ocean Forest from seed?

Your trying to grow on a windowsill? Maybe the soil isn't the limiting factor in this situation?

As to your ?. Most would tell you that ocean forest by itself would be too hot for seedlings.

maybe4sure, potting soil would be a good way to go, although I would not touch miracle grow products with a ten foot pole. I have used jiffy seedling mix before but it was full of gnats. Nowdays I use straight pro mix with a top dressing of ewc, and it works great......scrappy

When I first started growing I fried seedlings by using pure FFOF (Fox Farm). I bought a bale of plain untreated plant medium from the nursery which had only peat and pearlite and mixed that with the FFOF half and half. When the plants sprouted and grew from the plastic cups I could start using the FFOF straight without burning anything. At the moment I am using Vital Earth which is very organic and I can start seeds and clone directly into it. Good Luck.

i use the same mix to pot seeds with tails as i use through the life of the plant.

half bail promix
1 bag ocean forest
3/4 cup lime
3/4 cup blood meal
3/4 cup bone meal
some extra chunky perlite

i havent burned any seedlings with that recipe.

HaHA, for real

Ok guys this is for a last minute micro window sill grow. I'm hoping to keep it as simple as possible, but I don't want to fail.

I keep reading that people who use Ocean forest fail due to burning their young plants. How do I get around this? Would adding lots of extra perlite cut down on the potency? I am scared I will fail, since I have never grown in dirt before. It almost seems like hydro is easier. If I mix in lots of perlite to cut down on the potency of the OF will my seedlings be ok? Or do I need to do something else to cut down on the strength of the OF?

One idea I had was to just get some cheap Miracle grow seed starter soil and transplant to Ocean forest after a few sets of leaves? What do you think about that one?

Just tell me what to do, don't let me fail

I've never had a problem, but I began to dislike the quality I was seeing in FFOF quite a while back and began trying other lines or making my own

cut it with some coco, perlite, fresh earthworm castings, If you want you could add some rare earth and some inoculant.

Peace,
Infi
