Hemphrey's Outdoor 2012

Another season is upon us and I've got a nice lineup this year. I planted five each of the following:

Kali Mist
Pakistani Chitral Kush
Calizhar
Grape Stomper OG
H3ad's Trainwreck II

Pic from late April 2012:

I started the seeds indoors, lost/culled a few runts, and put the rest outside in late May/Early June with some supplemental lighting. They've been growing quite well and I have some showing sex already.

Pic from first week of June of the survivors:

They've grown some since. Pic from a couple days ago:

My dirt mix this year consists of Sunshine mix #4, composted chicken manure, EWC, oyster shell, bone meal, and a bit of dolomite lime. I may try top dressing with bat guano as flowering really starts setting in. I will be feeding compost tea during the flowering stage.

I'm using a mix of 20 gallon smart pots and geo pots. I like the geo pots because they're actually thicker than the smarties, but I only had four and none of the grow stores around here sell them. I have to drive to get them and I didn't feel like making the trip, hence the smart pots.

I'm going to let the soil cool down a bit before I transplant, but I should be able to get the declared females into the pots by mid July. If I end up with more than six, I'll put them in smaller pots or maybe in the earth boxes I have sitting empty. Not sure yet.

picture.php

That's it for now. I'll get some more pics of the individual plants up soon. So far, I know I have two Calizhar females, two Kali Mist females and one Grape Stomper female. I've found two males in the PCK, and one of the Trainwrecks is a male too (I think). The rest of the lot haven't shown sex yet, so I have my fingers crossed for those.

Thanks for stopping by and I'll try to keep this thread updated as much as I can.

HB.

P.S. The Kali Mist females smell awesome already and they're both pretty tall.

Wanted to throw up an update so I can keep track of the growf.

Let me start by saying I realize that I'm waaaaay behind schedule here, especially after having looked at other people's outdoor plants. I would have transplanted sooner, but I got busy with other things and couldn't find the time to get everything ready. Next year, I'm going to transplant to bigger pots around the first of June. I feel like I'm on the late show, but at least I finally got them in their final pots!

I still have hope I can pull a decent harvest. If history is any guide, I should see a pretty large growth spurt over the next month or so.

Tossed out some males and this is what I got going right now. I still have two Grape Stomper females and an old Cali/mexican Sativa (from unknown 20 year old seed, I call it Loma Prieta) that need to get transplanted to bigger pots. Two of the remaining trainwreck plants haven't shown sex yet, so I'm waiting to see what those are before I pot them up. The ones in these pics below are declared females.

More pics!!

GrapestomperOG, got three females and this is the only one I've gotten around to transplanting so far. I'll be putting the other two females into a large container today:

Pakistani Chitral Kush. Was going to pull this one (look at the droopy leaves, bah!), but it's starting to perk up a bit and it looks a bit more indica than the other PCK I have, so I will keeps it!

Another PCK, looking happy:

H3ad's Trainwreck II. You can't really see it in the shot, but this one has a deep purple stem:

Lastly, Chimera's Calizhar. Had another very vigorous female of this variety and I gave it away to a friend to grow. I put a layer of redwood compost on this one a little while back and it seems to like it. I may have to do the same with all the other plants to help conserve water and keep the top layer protected.

That's it for now. Got to get to work now before it gets too hot out there.

Those plants are going to blow up no problem. Especially if the roots are getting into the outter areas in those smart pots. Everything is looking super green and happy, as you know, as I know they will be great in another month. Hit them with some good low strength soluble nitrogen like every 5 days if its hot, they look readdy to pound out the green.

Are you checking your PH? it looks as if you might be having some lockouts in whatevers behind that calizhar in the last pic. Good luck!

Hey Husky, I'm at 37. If it stays dry, I should be able to take these plants well into October. With the weather being like it's been, I suspect it's going to be a dry fall/early winter, but who knows? I've never grown out Serious Seeds Kali Mist, but I suspect I'll be able to finish them. Just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for a dry Fall season.

Thanks for dropping by Skullz. I just transplanted that one like a week ago or so. I checked the ph this morning with a meter I have and it's a bit high (7.8), and it's the same for each pot. I'm going to get my soil test kit out later and do a more thorough testing before I do anything else. I added some dolomite to the soil mix because my water is right around a 7 and I was hoping the dolomite might help balance things out.

That plant you were talking about is another H3ad trainwreck II that I forgot to include in the above set of photos. It looks like the mix might be a bit too hot for this one, but I'm hoping it'll pull through as time goes on. Some of the fan leaf tips on this one are showing signs of too much Nitrogen, the rest are looking ok so far.

I took some more pics this morning before the sun hits em. It's easier to see the leaf colors without that sun in the shot.

Update time. Plants are all doing well and coming along, despite the less than ideal weather. I'm still running behind, but I'm starting to see the girls filling out a bit more, so there's some hope.

Been giving them a light foliar feeding with Catalyst and some silica once a week. Bugs have been a non-issue so far, but I'm still hitting them once a week with a light azamax foliar anyway.

For the dirt, I've been giving them plain water most of the time, which is easy enough. I've fed twice with some Earth Juice Grow, but I don't want to push them too hard. I will be starting with the regular guano tea feedings in about another week or so.

I have a grape stomper that is in a smaller pot and it's flowering earlier than the others. I got a trainwreck male for her and they're currently sitting together, away from the rest of the garden, getting to know each other a little better.

Man, everyone has such killer grows around here! I love watching other people's grow logs. Very inspirational.

The weather has sucked lately. Overcast everyday and windy. Despite the shitty weather, my plants are looking ok. Wish the sun would come out a bit more, but maybe September will be kinder to me.

Anyway, onto my little garden...

These trainwreck plants are hard to figure. The flowers are more developed than most of my other plants, which I wasn't expecting. They aren't filling out the pots like I'd hoped.

I read somewhere where Tom Hill was saying that Trainwreck doesn't have a huge root system and I'd have to say I agree. He also mentioned that they can be very touchy in regards to flowering, which is exactly what I'm dealing with now.

I probably could have done just as well sticking them in 10 gallon pots. Oh well, live and learn.

This PCK plant was the one that didn't look very good during veg. The leaves were droopy and I almost tossed it. I'm glad I held onto it now.

Grape Stomper OG. My perkiest, frostiest plant. The smaller plant behind it is a Super Lemon Haze. Grew the SLH indoors last winter and I really liked the smoke and thought I would try it outdoors. The leaves on this GSOG are pretty large.

picture.php

picture.php

Short Kali Mist. The other one is about 1.5' taller and it's hard for me to get it all in the shot. This one is starting to bud.

picture.php

Calizhar, just now starting to bud.

picture.php

I pollinated one of the Grape Stompers with a real nice Trainwreck male and it looks like the pollen took. Just got to keep this one happy and I'll have some nice seed to play with next time around.
