MR.. NICE - HOWARD MARKS

C

Classy@Home

a little off subject but ..... has there EVER been a film that was better than the book?
Deep Throat...

The book didn't touch me like the movie did - Harry Reems character was really developed vs the 1 dimensional doctor as written...

Just sayin...

The Mr. Nice movie was decent - cheesy superimposes of Rhys into time appropriate backgrounds (obviously on purpose I think - wink wink).

Howards live appearances look like a hoot - I'd hit some hash joints w/ him anytime - and some of that medicine he swigs to clears his punched lungs, too...

ran outta love

I've read both Mr. Nice and Señor Nice. Mr. Nice was a fascinating read but I didn't really enjoy Señor Nice as much as many people here seem to have. In fact I remember thinking to myself "wow the life of an author is much more boring than that of a smuggler" while reading it, which of course doesn't really come as any kind of surprise. But the seed company stuff in Señor Nice was interesting, and I also remember that funny story about people tripping out on SSH at the backstage of a show.

Was waiting for the film to come to theaters here for a long time but it never came. Sad to hear it's not good. Would still like to see it though, gotta import the DVD or something.

A Clockwork Orange

The book is great, but Kubrick and McDowell made something special.

Scarface

The original book by Armitage Trail is about 1920's Alcohol Prohibition and was very largely based on Al Capone's career, so much so that Trail got grabbed by one of Capone's associates and grilled about it, he probably escaped because AC was flattered by the fame. The film with Al Pacino is only vaguely based on the book, a lot of the screenplay is lifted from the real life story of Griselda Blanco, including the end, she invented the style.

Life of Brian

Much more fun than the Bible...

Mr Nice is a great read, but the lesson it reinforces is what is really important, do not talk on the telephone, it will be heard by the Police and then also by the Jury.
