Most of our material is run through an enclosed butane extraction system, so the numbers are relative. We measure our return in Absolute Amber, after we have already removed the stems and any seeds, and after winterization to remove the waxes. In most cases, the material has also been dried to around 10% water content.

Yield varies by strain, and whether or not it was grown indoors or outdoors.

Our worst yield was indoor Catalyst, at 5.8% yield and our best was outdoor Amsterdam Flame or Trainwreck, which yielded over 25%. Indoor average from our plants is just over 23%.

The outdoor plants that we run, produce more wax than indoor plants. Indoor we average about 8% loss at winterization.

Our best AA run using one repack and a simple flow through column, was 21.6% on Godbud.

As has been noted, examination with a microscope will reveal if the heads are gone, leaving behind only the empty stems, which look like wet fur.

well samson, how long is it taking from when you first press the can on the rubber stopper, until the gold butane starts flowing from the bottom?
i fill the tube with about 30 grams, and then blast it with one can. it usually takes over 20 seconds for the butane to come out of the bottom.i would then put the dish in hot water baths for about an hour to purge it, then bring inside to collect and vacuum or just collect.

Its strain dependent, I always use 10 grams of dry, ground, dense packed. If I get 1.7 grams I am content. I pulled 2.3 from some Jack and it still had lots of love to give. The fudge factor is around 5% in great and good quality. I have one weigh out at 2.7 at 2 washes, but the taste and consistency wasn't good on nail, worked great like putty over bowls so it got smoked alot faster regardless of weight. I had some weed that puts out 2.1-2.4 with 3 washes. I liked the taste, potency and consistency so much that didn't smoke the weed and ran it all into oil to mix with others. My 3rd washes get processed 40grams (of what was once fresh weed) at a time still puts out weight and is still good nail quality oil.

I run several pounds per week and a good strain will yield me up to 35 grams per pound with 12 cans of butane. I have had weaker strains that will yield only 14 grams per pound. I can usually tell by look and smell how its going to come out.

I liked the idea of using handwarmers on the tube. Mine always ices over and I never thought that it would decrease yields... thanks

^^yeah , that.

SPG clone makes loads of oiland keeps the grapefruit smell/taste. Also my mate gets more yield than me,usuing less butane and a shoddy tube.i don't get it?

Foam pipe insulation works well for that purpose.

12", 24", and 36" long and 1" ID. When we size the material to 10 mesh, we get a packing density of about 4.2 grams per cubic inch for prime bud and about 3.8 grams per cubic inch for trim. That will put about 118/120 grams of bud in a 36" tube.

I agree......the hash weight CANNOT be more than about 26% max of the pot, unless it's added wet (water) weight. I use dry ice to extract my hash and when the process is finished, the hash can be quite heavy with moisture. It dopes evaporate quite quickly though..... but 37%- NO WAY!

I have since upgraded my tube and started running more/better material. My downfall in the first few runs where I was getting piss poor yields were largely because I was using a small aluminum tube and seeded material, which has little to no THC bearing weight in it. My new 60 gram tube makes between 9-14 grams of amber glass with only 2 cans of tane, I think Ive about got it figured out :)

Using a smaller diameter and length tube doesn't decrease the percent yeilded, if anything it insures you get complete coverage of the material. Using material with little resin content was your problem. Quality in quality out.

But if say...25% of his weight in was seeds...don't you think that also contributed??

Can't top my whopping 4% return. Yikes , need better material. This is with a 1" ID tube. I'm thinking its packed too tight or something. Any advice out there about packing trim?

I think size did matter, and being metal really factored in. It would frost over so quickly and once that happened the golden liquid stopped flowing. My new larger glass tube does not really have the opportunity to frost over at all, because I wear gloves with hand warmers in them. No the golden liquid keeps coming out until there are no thrichromes left.
