companion planting with garlic?

shucks, all this talk about garlic made me go pull one up to have a looksee...you know what I found? a slug living inside the cloves!

wasn't eating the plant at all, just hiding out there. so much for the effectiveness against slugs.

I also had planted some peppers alongside those garlics and they were decimated by slugs so i think it is utter horseshit about the 'companion' planting.

i dug mine up the other day, bit of rust developing but not bad harvest at all. been doing the same type year after year (apparently it adapts to your conditions pretty quickly)

good tip for garlic, apart from planting in autumn/early winter - is an inch thick mulch of wood ash. it keeps the rust off for a good long time.

Nice tip. What is the logic behind this? Does the high ph keep away the spores?

I dont think garlic will do much for you indoors as a mulch plant. Certainly not just one plant anyhoos. But who knows it may deter spider mites???

Garlic planted next to rose bushes now there is something to get excited about! :smoke:

Well I can't see garlic hurting lol.. Although I can't see garlic doing that well indoors either. I do chives indoors and they loose a bit but I do love my chives and I do have to have them so I keep them has nothing to do with my grow. stay safe headband 707

Looks like I at least have a few scapes so far... They are starting to wilt over from lack of light, as the scrog screen is filling in, and the light is getting dim..

I feel that moving beyond the monoculture paradigm is going to be the next big step for indoor organic cannabis growers... I like the idea of clover as a "living mulch" but I would rather incorporate something more useful. I might try coriander, as that grows in low light, and has excellent pest repellant properties.

In the so-called 'real world' seed garlic is planted before the first frost in October or November. Winter arrives, top soil is frozen or close to it. Spring comes once again and the soil warms up. Depending on the specific garlic cultivar you're growing at some point the correct soil temperature arrives and garlic plant begins to grow and again, depending on your goal, you'll have about a 3 month window of harvest - garlic shoots if that's what you want, undried if that's what you want or finally harvesting the bulbs and correctly drying them for storage if that's what you want.

Good luck!
