Putting a Manifold on a Window AC

AOD2012

I have the key, now i need to find the lock..

Hey people. All these 90 degree days have been killing me lately. I have a window AC in the wall of my vert room, never needed it until now.

I have a fan pulling colder air from my basement, which goes down to my fans on the floor, pushing cold air up. I turned down my ballasts to 75%, and it is getting a little hot in there.

I was wondering if I can hook up some sort of manifold onto the window AC, and duct that into a my intake.

Will there be any issues with condensation or anything?

Thanks a lot for any help.

I have a similar issue right now AOD. Got a cheapo AC to fit in this tiny tiny window, but it has the white styrofoam backer letting in a ton of light. The louvers arent removable so Ive been hesitant to try the black spray paint quick fix.

Im thinking about using duct board to make a tall column that will be attached to the cold air output, with a 4"/6" flange attached at the top. A stanley fan or inline fan will be used to pull the cold air from the column into the room, not only blocking light, but also dispersing the cold air throughout the room at its highest point.

Id love to think there is a simpler option, but this is the best ive come up with so far.

Split system
problem solved

Yea, that I know, but that was not what I was asking. Current situation does not allow me to get that right now. Hopefully will be in a new spot within 6 months.

Thanks for the info everybody.

I use a small window a/c unit to cool one of my tents. I ran a section of 4" semi-rigid dryer ducting from the bottom of the tent (thru one of the intake holes). The ducting runs up to the a/c unit with a rigid 90 elbow at the top that faces the discharge from the a/c, which works great.

I also turned down the fan speed on both my light/cooltube and the tent exhaust, as I was exhausting more air than the a/c unit could put out- all my cold air was going out.

I decided instead of building a light box for the a/c, I hung black shade cloth on the outside of the window, like a shroud, from the roof line to down below the window sill.

One word of caution for anyone using window a/c- get the one with a manual power knob. The digitally controlled units WON'T restart after loosing power. Brown outs and short blackouts happen alot this time of year. If this happens, and you aren't there to catch it, you could have lights on all day without cooling...
