144W PLL Angeldust grow

A couple of years ago I started this thread about a 72W PLL grow:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=162490

That worked very well but I soon started thinking about ramping things up a little :)

So here's my PLL growbox v2.0 with double the wattage! I use two 2700K and two 6000K 36W PLL lamps for a total of 144W (11600 lumens).
I plan on using this mixed spectrum throughout the grow.

I produced the seeds myself from Growdoc's Angeldust. I assume the ones I bought were F1 so these are then F2.

I will take clones and select a nice pheno to use as motherplant. Still have to build the veg/mother box and it will have 72W of PLL light.

The seedlings get only 72W at the moment so not to risk burning.

I use an 100mm RVK fan for extraction and a couple of 120mm PC fans set on low speed for circulation.

I decided to mount the lamps fixed to the roof and instead use an height-adjustable tray that I made from some aluminum I-bars and some fine chicken wire.

Transplanted the seedlings into bigger containers today, but pics of that will have to wait for a couple of days. Stay tuned!

i would love to the this grow to harvest.
could you show some cropped buds from the 72watt grow?

Sorry Ceylon, I don't have any more pics from the 72w grow.

I do have some from the past week so here goes...

This was on june 22:

And these on june 23:

These are from today, june 28. They are really starting to grow fast now as the root system is getting stronger.

I've given them a light feed of organic Cellmax and some bat guano. The ph of the run off water has been a bit low so I put some dolomite lime on the soil to try and up it a little.
So far so good.

Looks good sir, my girls don't like being so close to the pll.
I move them down a few and they fall in love.
Happy growing:dance013:

I was thinking the same. Not that they have showed any bad signs, but I will move them down a notch or two.

I found that myself - when they're young being too close to the PLLs did them more harm than good. Later when they matured though closer the better it seemed (used the ah supply reflectors so it was optimal to be a little further away, around 4" or so).

Looks like they're stacking nodes nicely - should be some nice plants in a bit!

Here's one from July 1st. I experimented with flash + long exposure to make the dreamy effect...

This one is on July 3...

And this is July 5. 3 weeks old now.

They are topped and will be switched to 12/12 in a few days. I've built another smaller mother/clone box that's nearly ready. These pots are only 2 liters, so quite small, but I got great results last time. In the future I will only grow two plants in this box but in larger pots (6.2 liters) with a scrog screen for each one.

Looking great PLLease... Love that cab. I love the PLLs, but am too lazy myself to figure em out, so I stick w my CFLs. Those are from seed right? So we're still looking for sex? Keep up the good work man, lookin real healthy and happy.

Mahalo!

Yes they are from seeds so sex is still unknown. But I can see hints of balls on two of them, but not sure yet. I read somewhere that Angeldust males show sex already during 18/6.
Looks like that might be true.

Very nice PLLease...

Couple of questions for ya: 1) how many square feet is your grow area under those PLL's? and 2) how are your temps?

I'll be starting contstruction of a cabinet sometime soon, quite a bit larger than yours. But I will be using PLL's instead of HID. The shape of my cab will be rectangular, seems like all HID reflectors give a square foot print, so that won't be a good match. Plus, I would lose about 16" of height from my cab due to reflector height and separation of bulb and plant canopy. I only have 60" of height, can't lose 16".

My plan is to have a cabinet that is about 60 x 60 x 20 which is about 8.3 square feet. Planning on putting 22 PLL 36 watters (thats 792 total watts) in there. I'm wondering how the heat build up is going to be...ballasts will be located outside the grow area to reduce heat buildup.

Your temps will help me figure whats going to happen with mine.

Your plants sure seem to be loving the light coming from them. Too bad you don't have any photos from your previous garden. Were the buds fairly dense?

Sorry for not updating and answering questions lately, had some problems but all is fine now.

@Wiggs, The area is roughly 2 square feet, so really small. I've had no temp issues dispite very warm weather the last few weeks. The pll lights were brand new when I started this grow and I've noticed that they aren't as hot anymore after they've been in use for a while. You should be fine as long as your ventilation is adequate (as always).

Now for a little update. Just as I went 12/12 my ventilation tubing broke when I installed the new veg/mother box. I then had to keep the plants outside the box under a week cfl and manually handle the 12/12 period for a few days until I got new ducting.
They yellowed quite a lot during these days but they quickly recovered when they got back in the box.

Todays pics are just shy of 3 weeks in flowering. And btw, only 2 of the 6 plants turned out female but I spotted the males just before going 12/12 so I took clones from the right ones :)
The clones are taking their time to root but I didn't have any rooting hormone around this time so I just have to wait I guess. The clones look alright though.

You're right. They do dry up very fast because the ventilation is more than enough, but I wont spray them any more.

Here's what I just put together. It's two 7 liter (~1.85 gallons) containers with screens.
Will be using them next time. I cut them so they fit the grow area exactly.

Those mod-scrog pots look nice, I'm about to make a couple of those myself for the next round in my PLL box, I might have to borrow your design :D

Lookin forward to some more bud porn from ya!

An update is long over due, so here's a couple of pictures from day 37. Around 3 weeks the plants all of a sudden started yellowing a lot, which is kinda early to be natural I think, so there must have been something wrong. Still not sure what the cause was, maybe old nutes, so I bought new fresh nutes (Lucas formula) and they seem to be recovering now.

I'm not sure that doubleing the amount of light from my last system (72W) has been worth it. The buds seem to growing a bit bigger with the current 144W system, but maybe next time if I get everything dialed in, the result will be better.

Those little scrog screens are awesome! I may have to borrow that idea for my next round.

I think you'd also see a great increase in yield if you replaced your soil with rockwool or coco, maybe try that?
