What's new

shutting down the flower room for a while, but want to keep the genetics.

haven't been in this forum for a while - been working too much....

anyway i popped three packs: Rez SD, Rez chem/sfv, and Shanti's Mango Haze. i selected great phenos of each! and i want to keep them for maybe 6-7 mo before i start to flower them again.

so here's what i'm doing:

chopping back the clones (MH & Chem/sfv) and planting them in 2 gal felt bags w/drippers

revegging the SD and leaving it in the same 2 gal felt pot? not sure about this but have been using the canna rizo and zyme.

then taking those three little lovelies under a twin 28W (not too close) for 16/10, feed at about half, and see what develops.

i have only been using the coco for the last four rounds so i am certainly no expert.

is this a viable plan? would you do it differently?

Thanks in advance...

sounds good to me, im doing the same, shutting down for summer, im gonna leave moms under a couple t8 bulbs and have them on a drip setup with a timer. i would put the reveg plant in a bigger container or pull it out and shave off some roots, new roots equal new growth. im leaveing my plants in 5 gal pots to have enough room to grow and hold more water so i dont have to go out there as often. im leaving mine in coco also just dont let it dry out once plants are esablished and they will be fine. if they grow into lights just bend them or lst the tops and when your ready to clone you will have enough clones to take.

also 18/6 light and play with the nutrient strength, i thought id try the 1/2 but my plants ended up needing full strength, 2 gals is small to keep plants in for 7 months, not to say it cant be done with more waterings and such, but i would re-pot them when roots are well established. you'll get more bushier plants with bigger pot.

if you have the time take cuts They will grow slower for a bit. Also found a 2 bulb T-12's work well to stall growth to a minimum

kept some genetics for 4 months and they were difficult to take decent clones from them. the clones were hard to root and not much vigor. eventually got a few plants that took off but it was like looking for a keeper to make a new mom from, not like I could take cuts for a sog. I'd try to reclone halfway through and you would have growing moms as opposed to stunted plants that are suffering when you are looking to restart.

I've got a high cbd plant that I dont need to flower very often and I just always keep it in veg in a too small pot and give it major haircuts like once a month for about 4 months before I throw a couple of cuts in the cloner and start a new keeper.

felt pots?

felt pots?

Not sure but did u say felt pots as in smart pots, geo pots etc. I'm not a guru by all means but as far as I know the smart pots etc. Air prune the roots for you by letting them slelf be exposed to air and force lateral growth. But that dosnt take care of the root ball if ur using any thing like a sensi zyme that will break down the dead root matter and feed your benis that in turn feed your plant so there's no need to prune the roots.. mine havebeen goin for real close to a year now and are real nice bonsi momma maybe only 12 inches tall by 9 maybe 10 wide and after 2 weeks after a hair cut she's ready for close to 30 cuts ( small 2 maybe 3 inch cutts but that's the way I prefer them... and I feed her as I would a veg plant I use gen organic line up and go lil bit above the light feeding... I give her at leat one hair cut a month ill take some pix after dinner t give u an idea of what she looks like. Hope I didn't rambel to much and you under stand what I'm tryin to put on the table...

18 hrs light minimum if you want to keep them

not true at all.. ^ this guy might want to mess with timing before stating a comment..

bonsai the clones. very simple, very effective, very manageable

-get a 2x2 inch pot, or similar.
-cut the rootball down, and chop most green growth, give it like 2 leaves, or small side shoots
-put them under low light, put them in high light when you want them to grow alot quicker

saves space, time, maintenance, nutes, water, electric ..........

Tissue Cultures, they sell the kits. its like being in biology class all over again:) Good way to transport genetics also instead of stressing a clone and stressin on it ha. and all you need is a piece of the stalk that is about the size of a grain of rice :)

i like the bonsai idea. for what i'm going to do, it seems that would fit what i'm doing. thanks everybody for chiming in!

tissue culture is interesting for sure, but i have been working too much to actually study... but i will look into it - maybe for long term storage of a beloved strain...
