Saturday night in the Organic soil forum^^^....I was drinking Captain Morgan Black with coke myself..good stuff~

So did we figure out who's sending MM a sample of dried fish?....I've got the Wilbur Ellis brand.

Please sir, I'd much rather have soup.

Waiter, there's a fly in my poop...

Honestly the fish meal does smell like a food product more than a by-product...somewhere someone may be making soup with it....considering the amount of fishy Thai restaurants I've visited.

There are oils in the fish meal as well...not sure how this compares to the liquid though.

So you know how the Wilbur-Ellis fish meal has somewhat of a granular composition, right? The organic product that I bought is more like a loose fibers - kinda hard to describe but it has little structure at all.

Not a powder but you probably get the idea......

Very little smell

While we're talking fish, thoughts on BioBizz Fish Mix? Its OMRI certified, derived from Protein Hydrolysate, Fish Tankage and Molasses.

Is Protein Hydrolysate different from Fish Hydrolysate? (does it have other animals in there?)

What the hell is Fish Tankage?

Should I brew my tea without the usual added molasses?

It's a catch-all phrase like 'natural' and in this case you're correct - the protein could be anything. It could even be from the missing pork chop from Elvis Presley's last dinner. It could be road kill.

Just because I detest the whole OMRI scam I can't let this one pass, OMRI cannot certify anything. What they are licensed to do by USDA is to publish a list, i.e. OMRI products are 'listed' and can never be 'certified' - that requires organizations like Oregon Tilth (OT), California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), Demeter Group (Biodynamic Certification group), Organic Trade Association (OTA) which is an international group out of New Zealand I believe or were anyway.

There are about 10 organizations licensed under USDA to certify food, fiber, etc. as 'organic'

I like the smell...it reminds me of high school. I don't mind the granular texture...the fibrous stuff sounds interesting.

I was not so pleased with the spray dried hydrolysate that I tried...it seemed that it took forever to re-hydrate and stayed in the form of tiny tiny little balls that settled to the bottom of the 're-hydration bucket'...it had to be mixed and then immediately pumped or poured before the particles settled again. It works but it was more of a hassle than the liquid..or simply mixing in fish meal as a dried amendment.
I also used the spray dried hydroylsate as a top dress mixed with EWC and kelp meal...which seemed more ideal as a topdress method.

Definitely verify with CT Guy but it's my recollection that the test he ran on the spray-dried product showed that it wasn't a viable replacement for fish hydrolysate in an AACT.

But I could be wrong on that one so check with him

Microbeman,

I brewed compost tea using your recipe in a 32 gal vortex using your design (without diffuser) with a 110l/m airpump. I dont get any foam at all, am I suppose to get foam? The key ingrediant that is different is kelp used is solution, not solid.

Also what do you recommend recipe for flowering?

Do you have a recommendation for a micrscope?

Thanks and learned a lot from you.
