600W grow cab design

From what research that I have done, a 600W HPS can cover up to a 5x5' space. But will it be too much for a 38"x38"x72" space? I understand temperature is a concern.

Also, how can I size a charcoal filter for the space that I grow it in?

I'm looking ot do this on a decent budget, so I will be building the cabinet myself; the ballast I may get used, I may get new, depending on the price.

I'm planning on organic soil, with an upgrade to organic hydro down the road sometime.

Thoughts, ideas?

You could run a 600 in there easy . air cooled hood or cooltube 6" ..... with a 6" fan & scrubber cleaning out the smells & heat . 6" x 20 or 24" filter would work in there , will cut down on some of your height but 6' is plenty of space to grow nice bushy plants . just make sure your intake is twice the size of your 6" exhaust . 3 4" pvc 90's on the back or bottom of the cabinet should work for ya , or a couple 6" .

my old cabinet was pretty much that size , mine was double wide though . 3' x 6' x 6' high with 600's in cool tubes & a 6" vent system . worked great !!!

Thanx Dank ..... wow all that & your still running @ 70% ? whats the humidity before that ? all i've ever needed was good circulation & a small dehuey . maybe a bigger dehuey would work ..... you must be set up in a damp basement or a rain forest :)

the temp in my room right now is 28c and 45% humidty...i dont no if my waterfarm res is causing the humidty to go up..i was going to cover the top of the res with some black and white i am only getting high humidty at night??? the dehumidifier is only 10ltr for every 24hours i am going to buy an ebac 18ltr dehumidifier see if that helps

I was over there reading Ventilation 101, and there are stuff I am not quite fully understanding, just need to sit and read it more carefully.

What I think I will be doing with the cab is two vents, one for the light with an aircooled hood that has glass on it, and one for the main cab that leads to a carbon filter. I do this so I can use cheaper fans, but I am not sure what size fan I would need for the light, to keep the temperature delta below 20deg F. I could control the fan speed to help regulate the cab temperature, no? That fan will also be on a timer, with the light.

The fan for the carbon filter, I would need it sized so that I can change the air in the cab within 4 mins or so.

I have the rest of the design locked down, pretty much, as far as the cab itself. The vents for the light, I can build a light trap easy, I've done this for photographic darkrooms before.

Single baffle is oftentimes enough, the matte black takes care of almost all the light; a simple carbon-filter sheet takes care of the rest.

Ok... so I've been studying Ventilation 101, LOL...

If I'm going to isolate the light from the cab with an aircooled hood and keeping it completely isolated from the growcab, and then ventilate the growcab separate, that means the most expensive component of the ventilation setup is the scrubber by FAR.

I figured that to cool the light to a minimum of 20deg change from intake to exhaust, I would need 95cfm, and a booster fan that I can get for $31 from Home Depot will move 160cfm in free air.

In the meantime, for the cabinet itself, I can get by with another $30 booster fan, this one being 4inch in diameter.

Would my calculations be correct?
