King Salmon fishing

I had a great time today, fishing for wild King salmon out beyond the Golden Gate on the fishng charter boat "El Dorado". We left the Berkeley dock at 6:00am, went out under the GG bridge & returned early with limits of big shinny king salmon.
I had the added bonus of winning the $100 Jackpot for the biggest fish of the day, 30lbs. I also caught a 20lb'er, for a cool 50lbs of fresh wild salmon. They will fillet them for you when you reached the dock. I'll be firing up both the smoker & the BBQ tomorrow(I'm too tired today)

P.S. I never get tired of seeing the Golden Gate Bridge:cool:

Actually they can't fillet them 'on the boat'.
On the dock is legal

Not where I live. That would be considered 'Processing' and would
have to be done in a certified Kitchen. Also, the Cal F&G wants them
whole until you get them home, so they can measure them if they pull you over. Different with rock cod, you only are suppose to leave a 1 inch square piece of skin attached. (For species ident)

Superb fish, jj. Do they put up much of a fight?

Incredible you can expect to catch such quality fish in such a busy and polluted waterway.

Best fishing in years!

Best fishing in years!

That was the best salmon fishing in years. We were hooked-up all day. I don't think we went 10min between fish!
There were a lot of old 'seasoned' fisherman on the boat, & with the fish ALL running this big, it showed in the fish count. I thnk we only lost maybe 3 fish all day. That's easy to do with small fish, but hard to do with 20lb'ers! Everybody kept their cool (even during the inevitable tangle) so we were able to net most of the fish we hooked.
Kcar, I thnk maybe the reason they can fillet at the dock at Berkeley is because F&G is at the dock to meet the boats, most days. They are there 4 out of 5 times. And you could go just a few blocks down the street to the fish market & buy the same fillets, without having a fishng lic.
The weather was overcast with a little chop, but it's suprising how you don't notice that while your hooked onto a big salmon!
Since everyone is trolling their lines in the water at the same time, they have to keep the boat moving even whle you fight your fish. And when the fish are large, that makes a big difference. You can really feel it on the line, yeah they fight hard!
Nothing grander that getting a view of the Golden Gate that many never see (whle holding dinner)lol!

P.S. The world is getting more poluted everywhere bro, hard to escape it. These fish spend their lives far out in the pacific, they are only now heading for the bay!

Paid for itself!

Paid for itself!

I went home with about 25lbs of salmon fillets.

With a market price of $20 a pound for wild salmon, this trip paid for itself (not including the jackpot)

Now is the time to go fella's!

If you can make it dasher you should, & try some San Francisco fishing. If the salmon aren't running, they fish for many other fish, halibut, stripers, lingcod. They even have crab trips!
Good luck

Damn doublejj...you're a cruel man!!!!

If the fish pics didn't whet the appetite enough you go and post the finished smoked product just to tease us all!!!

Mate, I've got drool marks & tongue slobber all over the 'puter screen!!! Hope I haven't fried the keyboard with excess saliva!!!

Job well done my friend. If I ever manage to get my arse over to 'Frisco I'll hit you up for a fillet & a cone of your primo bud!!!
