I see a lot of folks using the wrong symbol for micro. It's a mu{µ} not a u. Peace GS

I'm guilty as charged. I use the 'u' rather than the 'µ'. I type 120 wpm. do I really want to stop in the middle of my thought process to open a new window, pull up an extended ascii chart, find the alt code just to post one character?

(No, I do not.)

infact you are 100% correct .. but as we are all lazy stoners i prefer to keep typing the u instead of µ ... :D

:thank you:

pretty sure 90% of em know the correct symbol, but only 1% of em know how to make it happen from the keyboard.

:yeahthats

Now you know how I feel about: your/you're, they're/their/there, where/were, to/too, et al.

Also, for you "120wpm" typers, you can hold ALT and press 2-3-0 and the µ will appear!

Precisely the reason I started this thread. People are always calling us stupid stoners. When we mess up our won terminology, we show it may be true.

As to finding it here is how I do it on mine.

- Click the microsoft button on the btoom left or push the buttom, third from the left on you keyboard{Microsoft symbol on it}.

- Then click Accessories

- Then system tools

- Then choose character map.

- Then click the mu

- Then click select

- Then copy

- Last step is to paste it where you need. Peace GS

I'll make it even easier for you, GS....

hold "alt" key and type "230" on your number pad. Let go of "alt" key.

Here's the chart:

EXTENDED ASCII CHARACTER SET 2

ALT + 230 = µ

(if I'm too lazy to do THAT, what makes you think I'm gonna follow an eight step process?)

I got an even better idea... just save the symbol µ on your computer somewhere..
i just now copied it from green's post and pasted it here... voila

No one cares about the difference, have fun wasting your effort trying to get people to go through 3-5 steps to put a line on a u. I mean seriously you had nothing better to do than nit-pick this?

Also um and u are both accepted HOWEVER micron is a no longer used scientific symbol in the International System of Units (SI) and hasnt been a official term since 1967.

So you all have fun arguing semantics over a outdated term.

Yea we are stupid stoners, making arguments that themselves are not technically correct. Pick a new way to measure the space in a screen or get used to the fact that it is a "slang" term.

Or you could just look up the guys post that did all the work...then copy and paste.. µ

That's how the politicians would do it.

<raises hand> That's me. And people keep telling me, "Just hit alt+ ___________" so I do and I don't get the symbol I want. At that point I just either Google or open up a new document, then find what I want through that.

I do not use Windows, so no Microslop button for me, either. Let's see if I can use Anti's 120wpm trickery! (I am seriously impressed, I do 75wpm, so you're hired!).

Newp! It bounces me around from page to page doing the alt+230.

I am bereft of the proper symbol. <sigh>

Has anyone noticed that I always spell out micron. That is because I can't figure out how to do it from my keyboard either.

Following each of the above instructions, something different happens on my screen, so I will continue to just say micron.

Are you on a Mac? If so, it's OPTION (ALT) + "M". Hope this helps.
