any other rock climbers out there? i am a one-handed climber and i climb up to 5.10c right now. i know there has to be other rock climbers in the stoner community. nothing better than completing a climb and sparking a bowl. it's one of the most peaceful chill feelings out there. especially when you are on top of something that you cant possibly get on without climbing. it's really earning the view i feel.

I'm a former rock climber. The biggest wall I've done to date was "The Regular Route" on Fairview Dome in Yosemite. That's where I suffered a lightning strike ~80ft from the summit. My favorite place is/was Lover's Leap on Hwy 50 near Echo Summit. I've done a number of routes there. Corrugation Corner is my favorite route there. It's not technically challenging, but the high degree of exposure makes it psychologically intimidating (one spot where you're out on the wall with about 300ft of air below you). Most of my climbs have been domes and peaks in Yosemite.

you basically climb 5.11 and you have one hand?

:tiphat:

good on ya m8

I climb 5.10 and have both hands. I live in Portland Oregon so we go to Smith Rock whenever we can. The Tiaton river area in Washington is also AMAZING.

glad to see there are a couple other climbers here.

i've never climbed in yosemite but i've been there a couple times before i started climbing. now that i climb i cant wait to go back; eventually when i get a car that can handle some longer trips i will be going through yosemite a lot i hope. and Dave, you got hit by lightning while climbing? lucky it didnt fry your rope!

and yup. i lost my hand 2 years ago and started climbing last year. i live close enough to joshua tree that my friends and i can pitch in on gas and climb there often, or sometimes we do some indoor climbing in riverside, but outdoors is unbeatable. right now my highest onsight (i dont count indoor stuff) is a 5.10c. i'm also just starting to lead multi pitch trad.

bouldering is perfect for stoners,it requires huge efforts to go nowhere, you need a combo of ADD and OCD in order to be good at it,and you get to spend half your time lounging on comfy pads with snacks, what could be better?

well I've been a dozen or so times.. to a couple different places.
its crazy how intense of a cardio work out it is in such a short amount of time on the rock. i need better shoes thats for sure.

I like getting stuck on a move... where i must try different awkward ways of grabbing the next little pinch or ways to stand on a little nodule the size of a finger tip... theres a slight rewarding feeling figuring out how to attack the problem.

i never was that good, and haven't been many times since i broke my arm (arm wrestling) but that seems like no excuse now/in comparison seeing as i still have two arms.. respect knubs I've only climbed rope once it was cool how you can start in the same spot if you mess up, as when bouldering i always start over from the beginning of the route.

4 sure Unc, its cool being outdoors getting a lil exercise... and getting baked the way there while climbing and on the way back not to mention all of the places are just cool places in their own right especially yosemite

I love climbing. been doing it since I could walk. my father started me out asap. my favorite place to climb on rope is garden of the gods. it has been about ten years though. bouldering is my favorite because I grew up in the south and we have no mountains but great bouldering in the hill country.

i got bored today and free soloed a 5.8 in j-tree. it was a long day of climbing but the solo was my favorite part by far.

and i use no aid of any sort. i just wrap my nub("knub") in climbing tape and go for it. i am good with my feet, and my legs are strong. my nub works well for balance or stabilization but not much on power usually

Well it's impressive that you can do 5.10's with only one hand. Even when I climbed the best I ever did on lead was a 5.9. All my "stuff" is generally multiple pitch routes up domes and peaks out here. The strike I/we took on Fairview Dome was insane. Ed was the lead as I had not ever lead a route to that point. We were one pitch from summited and got our asses handed to us by a fast moving Sierra storm. My other partner, Walter (who was below) was getting ready to climb up to us when we took the strike. Ed and I were left unconscious for about 30 secs or so. Walter "felt" the shock and noticed the rope go slack as I let go of it when I was knocked out. When we didn't reply to his calls, he thought we were dead. How's that for scary? ~900ft up a big wall...alone...with 2 dead buddies? What to do, eh? Anyway, once everyone came to and regrouped, Ed was kinda out of it and wanted to bail (rappel back down...900ft). I said it was insane to rappel 900 feet back down when the summit is only 80-100ft from us and a "walk off" (typical of the domes in the Sierra). That's when he said that he was having trouble with his hands after the strike...so I had to lead the last pitch. I was very nervous.
