i used to be obcessed with star wars as a kid...fuckin spent all my chore and birthday money on every possible star wars toy you could buy. still got rubbermaids full of action figures and other things like x wing fighters under neath my old bed...alot of them still in original packaging...

but yeah like everyone else said..

gotta start it off with Episode IV A NEW HOPE..then go to empire strikes back, return of the jedi was my favorite hands down..

my favorite parts were the big space ship war scenes with x wings, y wings going at it against TIE fighters...and the ewoks vs stormtroopers battle was epic too..

i wasnt a big fan of 1,2, or 3.....all of them kinda blend into my memory, a bunch of fancy CGI couldnt save them..

i found 1 ok, 2 better and 3 best. (out of the second installment)

personally i would not listen to the super fans and watch them in order.

usually its best to save the best for last ;)

I saw Star Wars in the theater 13 times as a kid. It absolutely changed movies for ever.
I would watch in the order they came out.

For me, the movies after Return of he Jedi stink.

i agree 100%. the first was an antidote to all the heavy sci-fi "meaningful" films. it was obviously meant to be Captain Blood Erroll Flynn mixed with Buck Rogers movie serials, an incredible film score, a ton of fun. i didn't like the 2nd released as much (it started taking itself too seriously), though many think it the best. after that it was about marketing ewoks and shit like that. and lucas is a lousy writer, plot, dialogue, everything. it's embarassing compared to heinlen, herbert, ellison, etc. the man can't write dialogue to save his life.

...the man can't write dialogue to save his life.

How can you say that when he brought us gems like:

Princess Leia: Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerf herder.

Han Solo: Who's scruffy-looking?

Ok i watched 4,5 and 6. Great movie, great story and characters. I like c3po, all proper and stuff. Getting 1,2,and 3 now in 1080p. Can't wait to watch them, i think sam jackson is in one of them too.

I saw a remaster a superfan uploaded of the 1977 release. He fixed continuity, added relevant special effects, and is in line with the original release of 1977. He used the laserdisc masters and cropped to the letterbox in 720 HD. Quite impressive.

What im wondering is did he turn his father good before he died? I'm just kinda feel like i missed out because i don't have nostalgic feelings for this movie. It's real good tho, especially for its time. Now i wish 7 8 9 were gonna be made.

That's tough to say since it's implied by the dying words of Padmé Amidala (Luke and Leia's mother) saying "Obi-Wan... there... is good in him. I know there is... still... " that the good was always there and it revealed itself when Darth Vadar turned on The Emperor to save his son Luke. I guess in a sense you could say Luke turned his father good but it wasn't really a concious effort on his part.

I don't think you missed that much, the best thing in my opinion about having watched star wars is because of all the references, but just by itself it's a mediocre movie in my opinion. it isn't bad, but it's not exceptional either. it's just one(well 6...) movies like there are many, ok rto watch once but not something I would watch multiple times or go out of my way to watch. I saw them once on tv.
I prefer the family guy version top the original

but a lot of people seem to have a different opinion, so maybe you are on of those who do really like it, I have one friend who is fan of anything even a bit related to star wars.
at least it's better as lord of the rings, couldn't even finish one movie of that way too boring... also tried starting the books once but never came past page 20 or so of the hobbit

I also often get surprised reactions from friends when I say I haven't seen certain movies so I get that feeling of curiosity to what's so special about it(for example I've never seen fightclub or pulp fiction, and there are a lot of musicians/bands I never listened to, since I don't listen to music that much and settled on a few bands I like and have no nee to look further)

Funion

I watched an interview recently when he was promoting Red Tails. He said that it was about as close as we will get to the last 3 episodes of the Star Wars films. I figure he will hand the baton to some like minded director/visionary to finish what he started.

On a side note I had all the schwag up till the early 80's. Played with the stuff hard, but I still have all those tiny plastic blasters etc!

Having just watched episodes 4 and 5 on tv this week I'm not so sure Lucas really did plan for a 9 part trilogy even though I too heard the interview S4L referenced where he said it was. The reason I say that is in episode 4 Darth Vadar seemed unaware of who Luke and Leah were to him. In episode 5 he seems aware of Luke's relation but still unaware of Leah. otherwise why didn't he also try to get leah as his apprentice? Wouldn't 3 super jedi knights united be better then 2? Also he figured out who Luke was but he didn't know about Leah until he picked up on it from Luke. Yet according to how it went down in episode 3 Padme was buried looking like she died still pregnant. So presumably Darth Vader went thru life not knowing his children were born and then one day figures out Luke is his son. Presumably the force told him this but since he was supposedly even more powerful then Yoda why didn't the force reveal to him Leah was his daughter?

Also what really made episodes 1,2 and 3 seem bad was how poorly they set up the plot line to support the events of 4,5 and 6. To me it felt like they rushed to come up with ways to tie it all together that were not well thought out.
