Question for Chocalope Growers

I've got two diff phenotypes of chocalope in veg right now in 3 gallon containers in organic soil and all almost about 2 ft tall. Six plants in total with three of them have the thai mutant leaf structure and three regulars.

My main queston's are how much stretch are they going to do if I flip to 12/12 at say 30 inches tall in five gallon containers untopped?

Also what's the keeper phenotype that you like the most and why?

I've grown this several times but this is the first run from seed. I had a clone from a buddy in cali that brought it back to me and it wasn't the mutant pheno.

I flipped mine to 12/12 a week ago at about 12 inches tall. I'm hoping it stays under 48 inches, it is from seed.
I have 3 phenos, indica, sativa and crinkle leaf. One of the crinkle leaf ones has grown out of it. 2 seeds popped so far, 2 on reserve.
On finding the right pheno... I should know in about 4 to 5 months... same with you, eh? LOL, unless somebody let's us know what to look for.

hey T, I've grown the lope, at 2 ft she will strech to between 5 and 6 ft(she will gain an inch a day when swicthed I had to use bush master to keep it under 5 ft) and if you top her be prepared for her to branch out she can and will take over the whole spot. But she has the best chocolate smell 1 to 2 hour after lightsout, she has a great sweet taste when done and after a good month cure. open the jar and bam sweet choco goodness of yesteryear.

What do you mean by 'crinkle leaf' ? My keeper chocolope mom eventually succumbed to mosaic virus which I thought I had introduced. I had given a cutting away when she was very young and healthy and got her back again, but after this time following meticulous clean procedure with cuttings and all, she too eventually displayed the mosaic throughout .
This leads me to believe that maybe it was latent in the seed as I've heard other reports and now these of 'crinkle leaves' and 'mutant thai leaves'. That said, chocolope is an absolute winner. What a lovely strain. Yum. Yum. Yum. My favorite pheno is the one that has the full chocolate Thai flavor with a little of background cannalope, i've smoked a spicy haze pheno and it wasn't a shade on the keeper's flavor.

I find the plant stretches and doesn't yield if untopped, but it really benefits from being topped and trained. Cleaning out sparse inside branches and letting the outer ball explode. Its stems are real sturdy when trained into bushes and it yields very well with really dense nuggets and good visual appeal with broad bright orange hairs and bright lime-green bud color..
Your keeper should have no virus displaying, mutant leaves or crinkle ( But I've been curing mine with essential oils foliar sprays and it is working well). It should be the thai pheno with the 'drooping hand' leaves and lazy thai look. It should have very large calyxes, very large trichomes and a very good density. It should smell with a heavenly, sickly sweet fruity perfume when you brush past it. It should flower in 8-10 weeks. IMO the choco gets going later than most and overtakes everything in bud explosion about week 6 into flower, really fattening and swelling till the day its ripe. Terpenes change round week 6 too and get really sweet and with a dirty sour fruit, mangoes, melons, guavas and chocolate that gets stronger the longer you leave it. The same chocolope pheno can be left to go 14 weeks or more, foxtailing, then rebudding with the taste changing even more and the high becoming almost tooo much. I've seen different chocolope pheno's, but your keeper will be one of your favorite, favorite smokes and grows, its special.

After smoking Chocolope last week, I'm really wanting it or something similar..

I just picked up some 16 inch grow hoops to use with the chocalope so I can train them better, I also topped the main stem of plants and put what I cut off in the ez cloner.
Thanks moundstomper and maryjaneismyfre for the info it's already helped me on a few things I was wondering. What I was calling the mutant leaf is really just the thai phenotype and kind of grows out of that look the bigger the leaf gets. I'm looking to keep a clone of the best tasting one of the bunch for a mother no matter how long she has to flower. I always run 8 to 10 diff strains and have 3 flowering rooms so I'm never hurting for bud or flowering space.

Again thanks to all and keep the info coming I started growing indoor back in 1987 and still learn new helpful tips all the time
