Root Problems -- Help Please

I am having some root problems. I wonder if anyone can help me.

I have been growing with Nutrient Flow Technology for over 20 years now. NFT always produced enough medicine to meet my needs but now I see that I am not maximizing production and have started to try and get a better product.

The plants in the first photo were clones and were under 18 hours for about 5 weeks when the photo was taken. The plants to the right (Four Way) are ready to go to 12 hours at about 20 inches in height. Two of the plants in the background of the other columns are almost ready to go to 12 hours. Six of the plants (mostly Lavender) just didn’t take off. Examining them closely the roots have never started to grow out.

Out of 12 plants two or three usually don’t do much as others get a faster start and the roots crowd out the slow pokes. I never paid much mind to the slackers as the others made up for them.

This grow over half the plants are slackers.

I am wondering if anyone can offer any advice. I have inserted a picture of one of the plants with poor root growth. This plant has been under 12 hours for six weeks now.

The roots all smell good. I don’t know if the brownish color means anything as all the roots usually end up with this coloration. The plants in the right column have new roots that are white and older roots that are a little brownish which I have come to expect.

Started my grow with Greenleaf Logic Grow. After about three weeks when I noticed the plants had not taken off I switched to GH Flora grow.

I am running tap water and a TDS of about 1,000 after subtracting 240 TDS for the tap water. I am paying careful attention to pH and the temperature is good.

Yes the roots come off easily. I now see the problem is fungus. Thank you.

Next question is what to do? I have looked for 30% H2O2 and have not been able to find it around these parts.

clone and recrop if you can.. they look young enough you would benefit from healthier plants going into the flower stage. But after 20 years thats just plain simple advice for you Im sure.

I need a way to control the fungus or it is just going to happen again. I see now this was an ongoing problem that was essentially overcome by healthy plants. My last grow had a bad infestation of fungus gnats. Now I see what the gnats were after. I cleaned and disinfected the system but the fungus problem returned with a vengeance.

I don't want to go back to buying and lugging potting soil. Hydroponics has worked well up to now.

I have found that using an earthworm casting tea brewed for 24 to 48 hours, will take care of all the slime and nasties in my system. My roots are always white and healthy.

i have the same problem. read a bit about this and it seems people use bleach, h2o2, dm zone or a tea. tried bleach but probably have not kept it up enough. need to find a solution as well. my plants dont show any signs and look healthy but the roots dont have hairs and are brownish and yield is affected. i had some sort of pest a few months ago but i think they r gone. please keep us posted. can you use 3 percent h2o2 at higher levels?

I bubble up a gallon of water with 1 cup of earthworm castings in it. The EWC are in a sock so they dont muddy up the water. You can just filter it if you dont want to use a sock, run it through a strainer.
I add this every week to 2 weeks my entire grow and no more nasties.

I bought it from some obscure warehouse in Half Moon Bay, CA...

$200 for a qt....

I consider Bleach like sulfur for PM, just a bandaid. Have to keep applying. This stuff WORKED the first time!!!

I would of lost 6+ lb's of crop, if it weren't for that! Used in VEG....

dnf hydro sparkle works well for root rot issues its an enzyme that consumes the dead material Ive seem it work wonders in DWC and flood & drain good stuff and not too costly

you need to be using bacteria as a preventative....even once you use this expensive product, youll need to continue to use as your bacteria returns.

instead i suggest you use ewc brewed tea as suggested to keep your bacteria levels good and healthy.

I can promise you that if you brew ewc for 48hrs and feed your girls, your fungus will be-----goneeeeeee :)

good luck.

Help me understand Kal el.

You use the worm castings just to inoculate the hydroponic system with beneficial micro organisms?

You are not using the worm castings for fertilizer. You are adding some sort of standard fertilizer. You are adding the worm casting tea before you introduce the clones or seedlings
