Dog tricks and Cannabis

My older sister got a cute Siberian Husky Pup, what an intelligent dog he is at only 8 weeks! Already taught him to "go home" (he goes to his bed), "sit", "come", his name of course... I'm surprised.

What we want to do now, is come up with some great ideas for possible "tricks" or something, even better is if those tricks can be used as like a skill... such as oh i dont know.. sniffing out marijuana.. if i have a friend come over and the husky goes right up to his pocket or something if they have herb I think would be funny... or if we are on a walk and he sniffs out some plants. It doesn't have to be related to cannabis, but it'd be nice to know he can hone in on the scent and track it :p

Any ideas or interesting thoughts?

not trying to be a wiseguy but keep away from anyone's garden, some growers set booby-traps that could maim/kill a dog or person; or you think you've slipped in & out of their garden w/out being noticed but the game cameras they have set up have recorded you & your dog visiting the garden, not good.

consider how you wouldn't want anyone seeking, finding and visiting your own outside garden. the moment a 2nd person knows about your grow it's no longer a secret.

my friend would make a gun with his finger (in an L fashion) and would say

bang bang, your dead

and the dog would lie on his back and act as if dead

he taught him a lot of tricks
that dog was great

Not a trick, but I went and smoked at this one guys house, he had a bubble bottle you squeezed and the ring popped up and you blew bubbles out. We spent hours totally entertained by just blowing bubbles and his dog jumping up and gobbling them.

went to a party this jack russell was there, "scruff the hash eating dog". i sez c'mon, the guy calls the dog over and sits down, he pulls out the tinfoil and the dog sits up and starts wagging his tail. he throws some mouse turds of hash down and the dog chows them down. the party gets rolling and the dog is checking it out, then i see him munching out at the dish, then later he's crashed on his bed, it was cool BUT i wouldn't recommend it at all, he had the dog dosed down right.

That is solid advice there!

Sounds to me that your sister have a very smart working good, Siberian huskies usually are, that is looking forward to be given some actually work.
I don´t believe in teaching dogs tricks in order to amuse humans. They should be made part of the family not made into some kind of clown. But nothing pleases more than seeing a happy dog at work.
Just my opinion of course.

Use a tennis ball or other toy and fill it with bud, trim, stems and make him fetch it and play with it. after he loves the scented toy, start hiding it easy for him to sniff out. he'll catch on the the game and soon you won't be able to hide your stash without the dog tryin to get it. Of course, my dog can find anything i let her smell then hide.
Her's my old boy Kramer, could have worked as K9 police no prob.

not all dogs have the temperment or ability to sniff out drugs. my current dog has zero ability or want to sniff for anything.. except other dogs maybe

Dogs have a crappy sence of smell! Evidenced by the fact that they can't just lay there and sniff each others butts from across the room! LOL :blowbubbles:

Absolutely, that just kicked some sense into me :)

That's what I don't want, we would like him to know ACTUAL good tricks... so their not really tricks... but traits/skills he has, that can benefit him. Such as how to defend himself. Swim. The sniffing and recognizing cannabis was a dumb idea. . i want him to learn things that make him feel good about himself for doing... tracking i guess was in essence what I was getting at, not just tracking marijuana. and since he is a husky, probably not likely

Training your dog to recognize and search a scent does so much for them and you. It doesn't have to be green, it could be as simple as a certain brand of dog treats. I'll make my dog wait in an area then go hide the item somewhere like under a couch cushion. Then she goes crazy smelling everywhere for it. I find it a great way to bond with them and it makes them feel good too. I realize no every dog is into sniffing, Just sharing what i do.
