2012, the year to do it big

Hey guys. Getting real close to starting on our outdoor. We should have planted a week ago, but things didn't work out. Gonna make the best of it.

48 plants, 200 gallon containers.

I'll try to get pictures up as it's getting set up.

I'm NOT excited about moving all the soil. 50 yards of soil dropped off at the foot of the property, has to be shoveled into a truck, drove to the plants, and shoveled back out into the pots.

Still deciding what strains to run, we have:
gdp, cannalope, cheese, chocolope, blackberry kush, mk ultra, sfvof, jack the ripper, casey jones, blue dragon, purp d, nycd
Input is appreciated

Zarezhu- At least you are getting a workout in. Looking at your list I would run the Cheese, PurpleD (if its the Chem stinker) and maybe Blue Dragon? have not seen it outside. Hell, run everything but the Blackberry IMHO. Nice to see a big outdoor project coming together. Get out there and make it happen.NS

blue dragon ? havnt heard that in a long time . my old school buddy and his friends use to grow that back n da day. was post to be from humbolt or something. heard it was great for outdoors . my friend was growing it indoors but lost strain about 8yrs ago. I would def give it a try . also caseyjones does well outside but takes alittle longer to finish, around holloween for me. the mkultra im growing indoors has pretty dense buds and I wouldnt run it outdoors. I would stick with strains that had sativa in em . Bluedream, greencrack , criticalhaze did the best for me last year. well best of luck and would love to see bluedragon grown out.

@boobs- Yuup, the purple trash is alive and well!! I took roughly 60 cuts from it after we clipped all the buds last year, only one made it. Been revegging the whole time. Couldn't manage to get sufficient healthy clones to put them outdoors this year, but if I had, they'd be a third of the garden for sure. LOVE the strain.

@prop215- Heyy! This year all of our soil is coming from a local worm farm. Don't have the mix finalized yet but best case scenario (enough money to afford all these amendments) I'm leaning towards a 40% loam topsoil 30% compost/worm castings 30% peat moss mix. Adding dolomite + gypsum + greensand + glacial rock dust + azomite + chicken manure + kelp meal + rice hulls/perlite/pumice. Top dressing with guano's throughout the season, as well as alfalfa meal. Definitely plan on mulching all the containers. I do plan to use supplemental lights, I believe it's one of the most important tools in outdoor growing.

@northstate- This garden is gonna be the most physically demanding thing I've ever done in my life. I have a partner 3 days of the week but the other 4 days I'm solo. Why do you feel the bbk is a bad choice for outdoor? And why the cheese?

@GP73LPC- Glad to have you here!

@yesca- I'm fine with a late Oct. harvest on a few strains, I
ll have to look into Casey Jones. And blue dragon sounds promising too!

@quattro- Wasn't planning on doing this garden. The opportunity came up and I pounced, now it's time to catch up haha. Gonna be a few weeks later than I'd like, but hopefully their vigor will make up for it

Z- I just think the BBK is not very potent, good smell, taste and yields decent just lacks in delivery IMO. The cheese was pretty big with many tops and pulled 2 elbows + of a 100g last year with a similar soil mix to what you will be running. Did need some support though used a few t-posts and some hortinova. Everybody has opinions but picking healthy and vigorous plants means almost as much to me as strain choice. Prep = payoff as you know. Cheers! NS

Just got back from the property. Lat 39, closer to 40. Roughly 2500 feet elevation.

There was a fire a few years back, cleared everything. Since the fire, there has been a lot of lush, explosive vegetative growth.

Very sandy soil. You could dig a 3-4 foot hole with ease. Has excellent drainage and structure. Haven't had time to get a lab test run on the native soil yet, but I'm going to incorporate it into my garden for sure.

I've drifted from wanting to run smart pots, to simple mounds. This would incorporate the native soil much more, as well as save money.

That said - we're getting the dozer dropped off this Thursday, and we have to clear a path and hopefully terrace the garden just to be able to get the soil in.

I've never grown in mounds, so as of right now I'm not sure how to approach watering them. Anybody with experience?

@husky
, I try not to have high hopes, that said, it would definitely be upsetting to get any less than a hundred units

@northstate- Cheese does sound promising. I do plan on staking and trellising, very important when growing large plants. I completely agree with having healthy and vigorous starts. Luckily, they're already hardening off outdoors. Still likely 2 weeks till they're in the ground.
