240V Receptacle?

There is one screw in the middle of the three prongs on the receptacle, and removing it should allow you to pull the cover off.

Based on the wire saying #6 Al (aluminum) on it, it appears that the ground wire is terminated about the 2nd or 3rd screw up from the bottom of the neutral/ground buss. Going by wire size, the breaker appears to be the third one up on the lower right. Just from what I can make out, it looks like you have a straight 240v with a ground there. You should still have a look inside, particularly at the connections. Aluminum heats/contracts badly, and has a tendency to loosen connections as a result. There should be an anti-oxidation compound on the wires.

I can see some real old wiring there. That stuff that has the cloth on it... Im blind rives is correct that screw in the middle should take the cover off.

Thats a 3 wire range cable , aluminum conductors & an old 50 amp outlet . it will have 2 conductors & a braided bare conductor for the ground .
50 amps is a rather large load to use for lighting unless your running around 10, 000 watts . you could get a 50 amp 240 volt controller made for it but you'll have no neutral for conveniance outlets .
i'd say leave it be & run new circuts to your room , you have room in the panel for a couple breakers if you pull that 50 amp breaker out .

Haha yeah i hear you man. I got a quote on getting the work done and it was like 350$. I have 2 open 15A circuits in the room already for equipment so i was only planning on using it for lighting so not being able to use my 120V equipment wouldnt be a big deal.

Here's a pic from the inside of the receptacle.... so it looks like 2 hots and a ground with no neutral?
