Close Up Pics of Clones. Rooting or Not?

I cut these clones 15 days ago. EzClone 30 site. 70 F. water temp. always. 6.4 pH. Used R.O. water only but added some liquid rooting hormone on day 12. Strain is BC Big Bud. These cuttings came from all over the mother plants. Some cuttings were rather woody and some were not so much. Have 4 bulb T5 about 8" from their tops.

I have noticed the little "nubs" on them. Are these the starts of roots? Also, I have noticed a really light colored yellow "blister" on the stems as well. You can see one in the pic.

In your opinion, how do these look thus far? Wait some more?:thank you: I feel as though something is awry.

I sure hope so. They are taking crazy long. I have rooted two clones of this same plant when it was younger and it rooted like crazy in 5 days! That is why I was concerned lol

What are those little blisters? Anybody seen them before? I have a total of about 80 clones. This is going to be a MEGA grow for my hydro setup :)

I only do two things different than you and that is to keep the light higher from the cuts as too much light causes them not to root as fast. Also I just put plain tap water in as the chlorine in the water helps to keep the rezi sterile. If you wanna veg some in the cloner add some nutes after roots have formed but otherwise whatever root hormone you use should be plenty for nutes until they have nice long roots.

Then when you transfer them to whatever media you are going to use check your cloner EC and make your first nutes about .1 EC higher and that will be your starting EC. Usually just a veg base and a root stimulator are enough for the first week or so. Hope this helps :rasta:

And those are the only two things I have done different this go around compared to this same plant rooting in 5 days. I used tap water and 2 little comp. floros. lol Is there a connection? I'd say at this point more than likely :)

Cuts from the bottom of ur mother plant will root faster due to hormons being newer in the bottom branches... those (blisters) I think(can see too good) just look like some of ur stem dieing and harding off. Perfectly fine......

yessrrr ur right on track to pop, those are all normal....

EXCEPT....

if you look on your picture #2, you will see that the bottom of one of the stems has become translucent.
This is is a bacterial infection called "pythium" and is natural in all water sources around the world.
How your plant gets infected is by its immune system being weak (in your case the cutting choice did not have enough stored sugars),
---and anaerobic bacteria being in too high volume compared to aerobic bacteria. well these are some common causes im sure theres a laundry list of other causes.

Anyways good job on the clone action...If you are finding your times are taking too long then you can evaluate the following:

1. be sure that you choose cuttings with highest possible stored sugars.
a.This can be done by either doing a iodine-starch test to get more accurate reading or
b. if your cloning alot then you can use a simple "feel" test. Plant tissue with more stored sugars will be "firm" vs "soft" with low amounts of stored sugars.

2. Be sure to use a source of aerobic bacteria in your water, this will allow for pythium to not exist in concentration enough to effect your cutting.

3. Use a cloning hormone gel to soak initially when first cloning.

4. Use cloning hormone solution that is designed to be used in water & foliar. (I get roots in 5-6 days and they storm in like the navy seals)

5. Be sure temperatures both ambient and water are within range (ambient = 78-85 deg. water = 68-70 deg

6. Be sure you have adequate air flow, transpiration is the key to cloning in aeroponics. (you probably know this I see that you've cut your leaves to open the stomata allowing for excessive transpiration).

7. HAPPY CLONING :)

Cuts from the bottom of ur mother plant will root faster due to hormons being newer in the bottom branches... those (blisters) I think(can see too good) just look like some of ur stem dieing and harding off. Perfectly fine......

It's actually the starches (sugars) that are used to shift the balance of hormones to create roots. creating roots is just a balancing act shifting the levels of cytokokin (sp?) and auxins among others.

This is why doing a starch test to each cutting will prove which ones will have the most available sugars to induce roots quickest and keep cutting healthiest throughout the process.

I had some clones from a plant that hardened dark red. All the clones were as stiff as as pencils but in three weeks they started to root and the stems grew out green! ....as was the plan!.....I do admit I was worried it wasn't gonna happen.

KABAAAAMMMM!!!!!!

KABAAAAMMMM!!!!!!

Ok. Well. Here they are today. A little slow to start but wow. I actually put them in before roots were showing. I put them in when I saw the nubs. The reason is because they were freaking dying outright. I thought they would die before they shot out roots so what the hell right? Good thing I did. As you can see, some are not doing well and others are doing very well. I expected this as the mother plant wasn't in the best of health and old as dirt when I took the cuttings. The aeroflo is amazing thus far. Thoughts anybody?

Those roots are the picture of healthiness, I bet your babies will start growing really fast soon.

They have started their vertical growing for sure. It seems like every day I come into the tent, they have grown. Even though all of the sites aren't perfect, that doesn't matter. This is my first run on hydro with cloning. I expected to have some turds lol. I'll be happy if just one turns out but I don't think that will be a problem lol. Thanks for the kind words.

Yup, they'll be taking off in no time. you'll have to stop taking them out of the aeroflo because the roots will be too fat and you'll break em off, haha. good luck!

UPDATE...

UPDATE...

Here is a pic of the plants today, about 4 weeks later. you can see the vast randomness of unhealthy cuttings now more than ever lol. Due to the fact that some just didn't feel like growing. It's okay though. It's my first hydroponics grow. It's not that bad IMO. Thoughts?:tiphat:

I think I'm going to take a few of the smaller ones that are actually pretty healthy but won't produce, and re-vege them back into full sized mothers for the next run. Since I misplaced my seeds?! lol

Anybody have any ideas on how to get the very end sites to grow? I don't think the sprayer is lined up like the others are.

Just an update on the growth. They are "ok" in my opinion. Could look much better though.

The picture upload says "failed" Don't know why :(
