DJ BB - 250hps/ 4-T5 / Cab Grow

Closet consists of a 4" elicent exauhst fan (152cfm) pulling air through a 4" (200cfm) phat filter using 5" insulated ducting. On top of my cab I have a exaughst filter to dampen the sound. 250w MH conversion bulb for veg - switching back to hps after veg period. I have added 4 - T5 HO lights to my cab that will hopefully help add some light to the plants that the hps can't reach to under the canopy. Cabinet lined with panda poly. And 3 darkroom vents for passive intake.


I was originally going to run all DJ SHORTS Blueberry. I had trouble with the seeds not wanting to pop. I ended up getting 2 of them to germ out of the 10 :-( So I had to germ left over seeds I had laying around. Added is 1 safari mix and 2 Skunk #1/Haze cross.

I will attempt to take clones from the 2 BB, before I start 12/12. I wouldn't mind a mother plant considering the other seeds didn't pop. Crossing fingers that @ least one of them is fem.

If I luck out and both are female, I may cull the others and utilize the extra space for BB.

if they don't want to germinate first crack them handly before u throw them away. many seeds i had were cracked carefully and start to grow normally. sometimes they don't start but try.you will throw them anyway so...If they don't germinate it doesn't always mean the plants inside are weak or something.Sometimes they are little bit green and hard to crack by themselves.

Just a word of advice, from someone who has run DJ's BB...

Do not cull the other plants you've popped. I'm going to bet right now that you'll be happier with the end result from the freebies than you will with the BB. Not trying to be a downer, just want to see a fellow grower end up with something he's gonna be happy with. Research the BB in DJ's forum there's tons of info on it. Good Luck.

My previous grows I had up to 6 flowering plants in my cab @ one time. It was very difficult working with that many plants in such a small area.

Since then I have installed the 4 - T5 lights on the sides of my cab. By doing so, I have lost approx 5-6" of space. I also removed my lower shelf to gain vertical height, and added the 2 additional darkroom louvers for the extra heat from the t5's. I am increasing the pot size from 5x6" up to 7x9" deep pots (think my math is right?). My goal is to lower the number of plants in my cab and increase the plant size/yield. I think its all going to come down to how well the lower portion of the plants make out with the t5's. I know they don't penetrate well, but with even just three plants in my cab, there going to be very close to the lights.

I also thought about doing a scrog again, but I think it would be pointless to have mounted the t5's if I were going in that direction. Maybe on my next grow, depending on how this goes.

As for DJ BB, I have read about poor germ rates, as for the plant I have heard more positive then negative about it. Culling Skunk/Haze will not be hard to do for me, I am not a big fan of a lot of the haze. The Safaris (Mandala Seeds) are great consistent genetics. My previous grow was all Mandala so I am looking to try something new (BB). For the price and quality of Mandalas seeds I am not worried about having to re-order.

Just a quick update.

Its been a week since the seeds have broke the surface. The light schedule is 18-6. I gave a small dose of liquid karma to the plants lastnight. They all look healthy. Seems BB are the slowest/smallest plants right now.

Temps in my cab is averaging 28c. Highs of 34 and lows of 21. The small fans are running 24/7 on the plants to strengthen there stems. Flowering won't be for a while yet, with the intent to clone and re-pot into bigger containers.

BB are the 2 plants on the right in the photo. Safari in the middle and Skunk#1/Haze on the left.

I got the seeds about 6 months ago. I tried to pop them when I first got them with a few other strains I bought. None of them popped and I already had the others ready to grow. So I had to start/finish that grow. I am thankful though, this last attempt the last 2 beans popped.

All my hopeful girls are looking nice and healthy. They grew about 1/2" overnight.

I started them on slow low dose Liquid Karma and Iguana Juice (Veg).

Everything is still growing green for me. I have started feeding eod with liquid karma along side with Iguana Juice. The blueberry are slow growing, short and bushy. The safari are growing quickly as expected. My guess is the one safari that is outgrowing everyone is most likely a male.

Update

Had some magnesium def. a week ago or so. Everything seems to have cleared up.

I had topped the two BB in hopes of getting clones for a mother, but that didn't go as planned. The skunk/haze plant I culled.

Starting tomorrow I will be switching over to 12/12 and begin flowering. Wish me luck, in hopes of big heavy colas

This grow was a failure. Both BB were males, and safari was a female. I ended up pollinating and seeding the Safari with the BB. I will be starting a new grow with Safari x BB shortly.

Nothing yet. Three days and none of the seeds have popped. Just started another germination tonight. Hopeing something's pops
