The Grateful Dead is back in select movie theaters nationwide for only one night on Thursday, April 19 at 7:00PM (local time) for the second annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up At The Movies. This year Fathom Events and Rhino Records have reached deep into the Grateful Dead vault to present the unreleased iconic concert captured at Alpine Valley Music Theatre on July 18, 1989 (the show directly following the band's famous Downhill From Here performance.) The event features the complete concert with two and a half hours of music including Touch of Grey, Bird Song, Eyes of the World and more! Fans will also get an exclusive listen of an unreleased live track from Spring 1990 and a look at rare photos of the band from that celebrated tour.

Don’t miss your only opportunity to join friends and fans for the second annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies at 7:00PM (local time) in select theatres Thursday, April 19.

89 was a tough era for the Dead. Isn't that when Jerry almost died from diabetes? I saw them several times around this concert and they were not very good. Was this the tour where at the end Brent died? After Brent the dead toured with Bruce Hornsby at the big white grand piano, Jerry got married and lost a bunch of weight, cut back on the smack and got very creative. It could have been 93 when I saw them 3 nights in a row at Boston Garden with Bruce. It rivaled anything the Dead ever did and was a small golden era until they brought in what's his name from the tubes who sucked and brought nothing to the table. 89 was not a good year for the boys.

No.

I saw a bunch of shows that Summer and it was great.
Jerry was not using H until Alpine Valley (Thus the name for the DVD, "Downhill From Here")

Listen to the whole Alpine Run, it was tight.

By the way, if you want ANY show off the archive, including SBDs, in vbr mp3 check this out:

Here is the show they will be playing, Alpine 1989-07-17

http://archive.org/details/gd1989-07-18.mtx.hansokolow.96231.flac16

Note that it says "This audio is available in streaming format" (eat balls Weir)

In the url change the word "details" into "download" hit enter.
You will get this screen:

http://ia600300.us.archive.org/23/items/gd1989-07-18.mtx.hansokolow.96231.flac16/

Right click and save each mp3 file, the flac doesn't work.
You only want the files that have "vbr" in them. The others are low quality or do not work.

They are all tagged and ready to go.

If you have Firefox, you can get an addon called Down Them All and set it to grab only the files you want automatically.

I will be getting rid of all my live Dead CDs, this makes them obsolete.

and yes, I do rule.

You are thinking of 86 ronbo......that was Jerry's meltdown/coma.

1989-91 was a GREAT era. From the Summer Tour where these Alpine shows took place to Hampton/Warlocks. Branford Marsalis Dark Star to the return of songs like Loose Lucy and Saint of Circumstance....the list goes on. I only wish Mydland could have been there for that whole run....

I am also a 70's era guy, especially late 70's, but as far as "modern" Dead shows go-- 89-91 was the last great era. You can keep your 93 and on....

BOOYAH!

:dance013:

PS-- And yes, I was actually at most of these shows

Well, fuck me. All the years combine...I can't keep it straight. I'm sure I was at Foxborough that tour, and I went to the Meadowlands a few days after the Hampton Warlocks show and they played Dark Star and Attics of My Life. Don't count on my archival skills.
