Amended Coco?

Just wondering if anyone out there is growing water only style in amended coco?

thanks,

I've done LC type soilless mixes using coco instead of peat,it worked well,to a point.

To a fifty litre bag og coco I added:
-ten-ish,probably more like twelve or thirteen litres of a commercial 2 year old cowmanure and peat compost, for nitrogen, humates and bacteria
-2,5 dl of dolomite lime per four litres of medium, for ph buffering,ca and mg.
-1,75 dl of high P bat-guano per ten litres of medium.

Pretty basic and unsophisticated compared to what some of the other organic fanatic dudes put in,but it was what I had available to me. If I was going to do it again I would add less compost as it was quite hot and they were getting a bit too much N, more EWC as I think coco lacks some of the humates that peat has, more lime cause coco sucks up some mag and I would have let it cook longer. Ideally you'd use more amendments for a more balanced mix. Rockdust and kelpmeal were on top of my shoppinglist for the next round
For the first two weeks after transplant the plants grew very fast. Then they started showing all kinds of symptoms. I had a bunch of issues that round,VERY high PH water,in the high 8's-low 9's some days, insufficient ventilation causing high temps and thrips,so I don't think the soil alone was to blame.
Coco gives a MUCH airier result then peat, and I would have continued using it as a basis if I'd stuck with amended organics. Mixing up a 80 litre tote of soil every few weeks became a logistical problem after I moved into an apartment again,so I'm still using coco but with chems....

Hey thanks for the reply spiral of eyes.

My final mix ended up being

10kg Sunleaves Piececoir
10kg Sunleaves Finecoir
22kg Diatomceous Earth (oil absorbent medium grade rinsed)
2kg Biotone Starter Plus
1kg Kelp Meal
500g Bone Meal
500g Bat Guano
500g Green Sand
300g Lime
300g Gypsum
100g MycoMadness

I hope it's not too hot, but i'm going to let it age/bake for a while to keep that from happening.

I feel you about mixing being a pain. I had to mix mine in my basement on a tarp and then haul it out by the 5 gallon bucket full into its aging container.

thanks again
