How many weeks to harvest?

Why get herb that is high in THC, and then destroy the THC by letting trichs turn amber?

I agree as long as that is what happens, you have to atleast admit that most new growers see one or two dark trichs are start yanking wondering why their bud is all fluffy still.

No one lets their buds SWELL especially new growers as they focus so much on what their $10 scope from radioshack tells them.

I am just saying for ME I guess but once I stopped focusing on the trichs and watched the girls THEN I started growing better and fully done bud.

I like amber, cloudy and clear trichs especially when doing edibles or tinctures. I think they all have a place in our bodies.

My bud is never "fluffy".
That comes from high temps and weak lighting, not from when you cut in my experience.

Have NEVER gone by the color of the Trich's....

My rule is, when THE PLANT looks done, wait two weeks....

+1

In years of gardening I've rarely found any plant (fruit, flowers, veggies) that I prefer harvesting before it's ripe. Flavor, aroma, size--everything gets bigger if you give it time to finish.

Genetics are the primary factor that determine the high, not a few extra weeks of growth. A ripe sativa with amber trichs will not cause couchlock but harvest too early and you'll definitely get a racy high that doesn't last.

So if you don't go by trichs, how do you know when it looks done? Are you going by pistil color?
And when you do cut, do you ever check the trichs under a scope afterwards, and if so, what do they look like?

I have checked mine after the fact just fmoi and right after harvest this last time maybe 25% but looking again later after dry and cure it ranges up to 50% ..depends on the sample..different parts are well different and I also bet light refraction and reflection and spectrum you are looking in all play a part. Most important for me has been trial and error and experience ...

I have taken the same plant multiple times and different stages..now I just wait till they are done...they always turn out better that way.

Which again begs the question: How do you "know" when they are done?
Breeders post finishing times for their strains. Presumably, they have worked extensively with those strains, and should know when they are done.
Now I am not a Greenhouse fanboy, but they usually post finishing times, followed by the caveat: if you wait an extra week, you will get the full effect, or words to that effect.
I realize that posting fast finishing times might help to stimulate sales, but who do you believe in this regard? Are the vendors lying when they post finishing times?

Experience helps...trial and error...for example my ak48 when be 100% cloudy around 8 weeks however taking it 12-14 far and away I end up with more and better quality smoke. Trichs on that strain even at 12 to 14 weeks don't really go amber as much as others ...my CC I can see amber trichs with my naked eye.

So are you looking for that "couchlock" effect?
Or are you saying that you don't get "couchlock" when you take them so far?

I don't think I can really make AK48 couchlock no matter how long it goes..that's likely more related to genetics ...I am trying to get the plant to realize its full potential yield and effect ..I know based on trichs alone you could harvest my 48 at 8 weeks if that's all you go by then you will miss out as I did many times. Its simply not done ....done is in the eye of the beholder I guess..hell I had a 48 literally go 14 plus no hint of this couchlock...but the high did last longer and feel better than it did at 8....taste was also much better not to mention yield.

That's interesting....

I'm 100% with you, IE2KS KUSH.

It's a different mindset than looking at trichs under a scope. Go back and check out the link I posted on p.2. (Zeus's Take on Harvesting) Lots of good explanations and pictures.

And very few amber at 14...effect was more pronounced and longer lasting. Now my CC Idk, I had stopped watching a calendar and looking through a loupe by this time and just guessing most of them were probably about 8 weeks a few fell above and below that but I just waited until they were done. I had a random bagseed finish once at six and do occasionally look through the loupe, normally 25-50% amber depending on the sample. Bit not my 48...always cloudy 90+%...I just chalk it up to genetics...also a fucking whore to clone...

IE2KS_KUSH

I used to track flower time and look through the loupe daily but there are lots of variables that can affect timelines and its irrelevant if trichs are all cloudy but my shit is still in full on hardcore flower mode popping fresh pistols everyday in mass..and no swellage....it ain't done and my 48 fits that. The OP IMO is far from done because it looks like its still dumping fresh pistols and the base where the pistil goes into are not really noticeably swollen ...I understand some of these factors are strain dependent and I advocate looking at as much info as possible. If you live and die on just one indicator alone it may not always work....not to mention in the op pics that thing had minimal trichs I would hope as it matures it will get more resinous..

I had a pheno of JH go 16 weeks. Looks can be deceiving. I wont harvest anything that's not all cloudy. Sometimes while waiting some wil get about 5% amber. If I see 20% Amber I would harvest. Anymore then that you lose more then you gain. Terpene profile changes with lots of amber..
