Supercropping a hollow stem?

G

Hello all,

As the title says, i am interested to see if anyone has experience with supercropping a plant with a very hollow stem?

I am familiar with supercropping, how you squash the 'pulp' and it heals very well, but i tried it on a plant that had a very hollow stem, which doesn't seem to have any pulp, and it has spliced the stem open, i can see straight through it.

Itstill looks healthy, but i am wondering how it will recover with such a big opening in it?

Should i avoid doing it to such a hollow stem?

Thanks. :thank you:

If its pretty bad don't be afraid to use a little duct tape loosely wrapped around the stem. I stress loosely because sure, the tape will seal the wound and it will heal faster, but you don't want to constrict the stem thus keeping it from growing larger. I have used duct tape on a 90% severed branch before and it recovered in about a week. Good luck,

Thanks for the input. :)

I thought it would survive, but i wasn't sure how well. It is a very fat stem with very little substance. Like a McDonalds milkshake straw.

You can train old stems, but you have to do it gradually, over the course of days, instead of minutes when working with flexible stems. Make your curves large and gradually tighten them up. Even woody old things can be trained with patience.

I would take a 1-2" section of a drinking straw with a slit down its length and sleeve the supercropped stem for 3-4 days.

You'd be surprised what these plants can recover from. I've done some serious damage with supercropping before and they bounce back from it so well you couldn't tell at one point the plant was nearly broken in half. Only thing you really lose is time.

I wouldn't avoid it. Hollow stem doesn't mean it can't be supercropped. Break the hurd before you bend, I've noticed my worst results come when I haven't pinched the stem enough before bending it over causing it to break or split so that you can see daylight between the stem, as you described.

Maybe start LSTing and pinching instead? It's easier on the plant and works really well.

Seeing daylight through it would be a mild way of putting it, lol.

I squished it, and then when i bent it over, it 'splayed' open, like i could put a pencil in the gap.
I can't see how the hole will be able to heal over completely, but it doesn't seem to bother it. The top is still healthy.
I guess i will just see what happens?

Take a cut, and shove it in there. Watch it grow a plant from a plant. I used a straw as well, and when she healed, she had a fat knuckle by the time flowering was set in. Looked like a tree knot.

This is an AWESOME idea. BEAUTIFUL!

I've done it. As long as you don't fuck with her too much, she'll recover. Just feed her like normal and let her do her thing.
