1337micro's New Stealth Subwoofer Grow Box =)

Wow I am a fan!

For some reason I am drawn to these micro-grows. If I were you, id try to run 6 at a time 12/12 from seed /clone and start a new plant up every week this way when it comes time to harvest, you will be perpetually harvesting 1 plant per week.

But none the less, that's just my 2c. I shall take a seat & enjoy the show!

If the sub woofer does really work you can try to push some low frequency signal (infra sound) into it and use it as an extractor . Add some classical or heavy metal also and the plants will grow like rockets :headbange

very nice... like where you have gone with this :respect:

does the sub work? i don't remember seeing if you answered that one...

Thanks! Yes GP, the sub does work, I just have to wire it to an amp. I'm choosing not to however because I already have enough noise/distractions from other stuff in this room. I actually have a gaming PC that runs 24/7 and is quite a bit louder than the grow box already lol, don't need to run a subwoofer too. On top of that, I also have a 1000 watt theater system in this room with another subwoofer hidden that plays music most of the time.

Thanks Boomer, since you've mentioned "perpetual grow", I'm actually going to consider it, I figure it will allow me to run through a lot more seeds a lot quicker thus finding my "keepers" sooner. I also like the idea of the vast variety of different strains that I could possibly run at the same time opposed to 1-3 bigger plants per cycle.

I'll give this some thought and see how many I can run at the same time given the amount of space I have and if I can find/make containers that will fit just right in this grow box.

I have more seeds coming in soon, some mosca negra tsi fly, sweet tooth and quite a few more, I also have some older mystery seeds that I might wanna run for fun.

Sounds like an interesting concept =)

I'm not going to hook up the sub, however, I'm sure the plants will get enough Metal on a daily basis from my guitars =)

Thanks cheeese!, I remember following your grows a few years back, still going strong i see =)

I'm an "ok" guitar player, been playing for around 10 years, not very serious though. I know a lot of people better than me =)

I'm almost at the point of launching this cab, testing almost done, eventhough I've never run anything in this box yet... I've actually decided to upgrade the light already...lol...temperatures with the 100w HPS were barely breaking 75f, so I've changed to a 150w hps =), I've learned a lot from my previous cabinet about adequate ventilation.

about 13333 lu/sqft, 125w/sqft @ 84f max.

So, I've decided that I'm going to run an 8 plant perpetual SOG in this cab, just trying to figure out how to make/buy the containers to fit, I want containers around 6"x3.5"x9", that's about 1200mL each. Might have to make them though since I can't find anything already made.

Will try to add a new plant every 8 days to the SOG, resulting in a perpetual cycle of 64 days. Also gonna try as many different strains/seeds as possible.

This is the genetics I'll have to play around with (all seed):

18 Joey Weed Mix
6 Random seeds gifted to me around year 2000 from a member on overgrow.
10 Random bagseed (was pretty decent)
10 Mosca Seeds TSI Fly
5 Mosca Seeds Sweet Tooth
1 Cali Connection Seeds Buddha Tahoe OG Feminized
2 Connoisseur Genetics Seeds SSSDH
1 Paradise Delahaze Feminized
1 Reserva Privada OG Kush #18 Feminized
1 TH Seeds MKage Feminized
1 Dinafem Seeds White Widow
1 G13 Labs Purple Haze Feminized

Knew you were a musician from page one! Players always have the best weed.

How do you like your Line6? Have an ol' Roland multi I like the sounds on; VSM rocks. Mesa Boogie one sec, Marshall the next, then dial in a Fender Twin Reverb and you're in heaven.

Hmmmm...a BC Rich Bich™ and Warlock™, takes me back.

I like a nice Fender American Standard Strat, myself...

----

Nice build, by the way, 1337. Good, clean lines. Should pass a cursory inspection, at least...

Don't listen to these yahoos 'bout wiring up your sub; continual low frequency sounds aren't exactly good for HID filaments (or plants either, for that matter), as I'm sure you know. Save the earthquakes for the bedroom. :smoker:

Uhhhh....that's a lot of light, mate. Perhaps too much.

I'd try to keep it under ~75-80 w/s.f. if I were you. Photoinhibition ain't no joke...

Cheers,

A small update today, so I've been doing a lot of testing on this cabinet and have decided to downgrade to a 100w HPS instead of a 150w. After installing mylar into the flowering chamber, the temperatures jumped quite a bit for my liking, about 95f. I also had the option of upping the voltage of my fans from 7v to 12v, but didn't feel like adding more noise.

Also remember that the flowering chamber is only 1.2 sqft, 150w is complete overkill for it.

100w = 83.33w/sqft, 7500lu/sqft
150w = 125w/sqft, 13333.33lu/sqft

What I'm working on right now is a circuit board to vary the voltage of my fans based on detected temperature, if this works out, I might upgrade back to 150w. I run my 12/12 at night where no one can enter the room, so noise is not a problem, but during the day (dark period), I want my fan speeds to decrease to minimal to not draw attention while I'm away.

I've also been having pretty shitty luck with my Joey Weed seeds, I suspect that they are really old stock =( I've never had such trouble germing seeds before.

Out of 20 i bought, 2 were doa (dried throughout and crushed easily between fingers)
Remaining 18, 6 were dropped onto paper towels, after 5 days, 2 popped and were transplanted (JWM#1 and JWM#2, the other 4 I'm writing off, been waaay too long, I'm sure they have rotted from the inside out, cracking the shells by hand produced a white terrible smelling mush. Sigh.
Tried germing another 3 on the 4th of march, 1 popped (JWM#3).

9 remaining have been scuffed and 3 of those have been set for germination, this time, with added heat of around 85f, maybe that will help these weak seeds lol, I have the general feeling that they don't have the energy to push out of their own shells. Let's hope these have a better chance.

So that leaves 6 seeds left. In a few more days I may just throw them into germination and see what happens, see what I can "salvage" out of these packs i guess and move on to some better quality seeds. If I get 1 female successful female out of these 20 Joey Weed and produce just 1/2 an ounce, I'll be happy that I've recovered the investment lol.

Here's some photos of what I have going =(

All 3 survivors:
p1030122ze.jpg

JWM#1: about a week old, slight leaf deformation
p1030123g.jpg

JWM#2: also about a week old, Pretty retarded growth, the main meristem sort of seized growth and a new one is shooting out where the cotelydon meets the stem, good times lol
p1030126t.jpg

JWM#3: broke out of it's shell, but is now refusing to stand up and grow (about a full day like this now) lol, fml

Update Time

Okay, call me crazy, but I've decided to change the lighting back once again to my 150hps, I've been able to keep the temperatures hovering around 82f consistently all week and I'm happy with the results so far and my seedlings seem to be able to handle it. Nothing a little bit more fan power can't handle.

The reason I keep on flipping back to 150w is because of it's better penetration properties compared to the 100w, my flowering chamber is pretty high/narrow so I think this will help feed the lower leaves/buds later on when the chamber is more full.

I swear this will be the last time I change my hps lighting...for this first cycle. lol. I'm sticking with the 150w.

Alright an update on my potential girls:

First a lineup shot, it's been a week since my last update:

p1030136v.jpg

JWM#1: About 2 weeks old, I think she's doing pretty good now, developing her 4th set of true leaves already and have developed a crazy amount of roots.

Down the Top:

Upskirt:

JWM#2: Also 2 weeks old, doing better to, but not great, growth was delayed/stunted, and is now more stabilized with 2 main growth points, hope she takes off soon:
p1030143g.jpg

JWM#3: About 1 week old, has resumed growing, and now actually has a set of leaves, pushing out a second right now:

Still no new JWM germinations yet, still waiting, going on 6 days on paper towel for the previous 3, got a good feeling on these, gotta be patient.

Awesome, awesome setup l337. Very stealth and nicely designed. Hope those plants start taking off real soon!

You seem good with wiring and electrical, have you considered putting together a LED panel? You could supplement your HPS and keep temps down. You have a perfectly sized cab for it.

Thanks trem!I hope so too lol.

I have given a lot of thought into building my own LED panels in the past, but never really got to doing it, simply because I wasn't convinced that it would work well, secondly, I have to invest time and money into it with no guarantees on results lol.

I've gone down the hps road and I know for a fact that it works very well, i might give leds a shot in the future when more information and results develop on them.

What I am currently working on you might be of interest though. So a few days ago I realized that I'm going on vacation very soon for at least a week at a time throughout the year, and during this time my plants will most likely die if not watered. So I'm actually investing some money into an arduino micro-controller to build an automated system to time my lights and water my plants while i'm gone as well as regulate the speed that my fans blow at, based on temperature. Maybe in the future, I'll expand it to some form of automated hydroponics.

In reality I'm a very lazy person, I'll invest the energy to set things up that requires the least amount of my attention =)

Update.....Had some issues...lol

Update.....Had some issues...lol

Hey everyone, sorry about the lack of updates, been really busy lately and ran into a few problems with my plants.

I made the mistake of not adding any perlite to my soil mix and that caused a lot of drainage issues thus stunting the growth of my babies as well as some major chlorosis. n00b move for me :p (I haven't grown in some time so I've forgotten a lot of the basics.

Due to my laziness, I didn't repot them until about 10 days ago.

However since I've repotted them to their final growing spaces (2L Cartons) in fresh, well mixed soil, they have recovered very well and are on their way to growing again.

As of today, April 11, 2012, I've switched them over to 12/12.

As for my seeds, out of the 20 Joey Weed Mix seeds, I've ended up with only 3 survivors, these have been the toughest seeds I've ever had the joy to germinate.

Yesterday, I've put 3x Mosca Negra TsiFly and 2x Mosca Negra SweetTooth seeds into germination (paper towels), within 24 hours to my surprise, they have already cracked and poked their little tap roots out. Easy as pie compared to the JW seeds lol. So these will be going into the vegging chamber very very soon.

Some pictures! as always:
