Seedlings growing very slow + dying leaves

there is this much nutrients in aquarium water, even with a full tank of plants and very fast growing plants at that. (aquascaping is one of my hobbies)

the water still has a slight greenish tint to it (even with regular water changes)

though thats in a tank slightly overstocked with guppies :) (probably 100+ in a 180l tank)

yeah i aquascaping is one of my hobbies also, I didn't know it had that much nutrients in it, I got a dirted tank if you know what that is, the excess nutes probably contirbuted in stunting the growth as well. thanks for your input, i'll feed with aquarium water when they get better

Yeah maybe Ph is off, but i would bet they look like this pic. A issue i could not figure out till i opened a cup and found a mucky mess with soil mixed with water. I had not added more perlite to the soil and the seedlings will grow new growth, but the older growth dies off, which of course should not happen yet. But as the roots branch off they grow into the mess and without any oxygen they end up dieing off. But the new growth you see has not grown into the mucky crap yet, but will, thats why re pot is necessary to cut one open, if its not like this your good. But i would pick your worst off and if there is a mess, i bet they all are the same.

Look at these and if they look close, open up a cup or rather cut it open, cuz it will not dry out. The plant will die before that, trust me. And its not the first time iv seen this, an over water a couple times is all it takes after ya get the mucky mess. It will not drain as the holes are to small and get clodded.

Gut i got new growth on these, but never remedied the issue till i re potted with added perlite, now i use a lot of perlite.

Check this out, i dont care how long ya wait for them to fry out, they never will if they look like these. And these seedlings at the time should have been over 4'' at least. BTW after the re pots, they thrived and got a killer outdoor grow,

Hope this helps,

LSY

update, the plants are thriving now, fast growth with alot of green, i assume the problem was drainage, promix seed starter needs perlite added to it.

According to Greg Green's "The Cannabis Grow Bible" you want to feed nutrient solutions with the pH adjusted to 7.0 (neutral) when working in soil. Water from a clean source (distilled/RO) will already be neutral for the most part, so nothing to worry about there.

The thing that stands out to me in the pics is how curled your leaves are (both tip curled down and borders "taco"ed down. To me that says the soil mix is too hot for the seedlings at this stage.

As a point of reference, I recently started seeds in a soil mix that was new to me, but I figured that I'd give it a try and see how it worked out. The guaranteed analysis put the N-P-K at 0.08%-0.24%-0.08%. I had 100% germination and all of the seedlings looked very healthy and had no leaf curl, just nice flat leaves that extended outward and slightly upward. Two weeks after the seedlings broke the surface I began to feed them GH's FloraNova Grow at 250 ppm with the pH adjusted to 7.0 at every other watering and I increased the nutrient strength to 350 ppm after the second set of leaves were fully developed and the third set were developing, always keeping an eye on the leaves for signs of downward curl or downward sag. I've seen none so far and so I'll probably feed them 500 ppm when they get to the age of 3 weeks (after breaking the surface) which is about the time I expect them to have their 3rd set of leaves fully developed and the 4th set in development.

At this point, you are already committed, so I'd probably just keep watering as needed and let the plants struggle past this initial stage in your soil mix and you'll end up with the most hardy ones making it and perhaps some delicate ones pooping out on you. But next time around you may find that making an even more mild blend for the seedling stage may give you healthier plants with better growth rates.

I hope that this is helpful.

thanks, yeah the problem was the seed starting mix, it wasn't nute burn but the soil killed roots, not enough drainage with my problem of over watering, the plants are doing ok now, new sets of healthy green leavings growing

Cool to hear that things have rectified themselves. I was worried about the worm castings top dressing, cuz the first time you water after applying them, they'll go right on down all around those baby roots and some worm castings can have a pretty substantial NPK to them. I wasn't thinking that your majority Pro-Mix mix would have such a water retention problem, but it sounds like that was the case. I "second" takkada's recommendation of happy frog... FoxFarms makes great stuff!

P.S. You really watered the that much!? Woozy c'mon now! I see that you like the fish cuz of the aquarium water reference, but I know and you know that cannabis seedlings are not fish! :)

when growing indoors i always stay clear of water retaining siol. in my experience it creates high humidity level that are unwanted, and the never drains well enough , hope i helped some. peace.:tumbleweed::dance013:

in Canada, We don't get any fox farm products, not that I could find anyway, Im happy using promix ultimate organic, with supplements like blood and bone meal, with some wood Ashe. i had to add alot of perlite, the drainage on the soil is terrible. most of my Iranian autos died, they couldn't handle the transplant, but my white fires and Iranian ogs are flourishing now.
