How to remove strange lines when taking pictures under hps (Image added)

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been answered a thousand times but from searching I can't seem to find the answer and from what i've read of the sticky at the top of the section it doesn't cover it.

When taking a picture under a hps I have the funny strobing effect across the whole picture(black lines running through the image) Is there any way to remove this by playing with the settings in my Panasonic digital camera or do I have to put the image though Photoshop and change the settings there.

I have attached my an image below so you can see what i'm referring too.

you have magnetic ballasts..and is that a phone camera? try it with lights off. I kno of no way to remove the lines..

Correct, this room is run with magnetic ballasts and with this particular photo I used my blackberry, the thing is though when I use my digital camera I have the same effect sometimes. Out of curiosity how could you tell it was a phone camera?

So I presume if they were digital ballasts then this wouldn't happen?

Faster shutter speed. You are picking up lines from the light cycling @ 60 hertz (alternating current) Lights off w/flash should do the trick and gives better color. Digi ballasts pulse at a faster rate so no lines in most cases.NS

Brilliant, thanks for the explanation . So a faster shutter speed should hopefully overcome the issue especially if i'm running digital ballasts.
