How to get Fast trigger from Veg to Bloom?

Hey ICM Community, Happy Friday!

One thing I've seen from many of the members photos here are calyxes & pistils popping from plants they put into flower within 7-10 days. Some members even have buds showing up after 2 weeks.

From my noob experience with 4 grows under my belt, it takes me 2-3 weeks to see the plants start making the switch from veg to flower.

How are growers triggering their plants to start flowering so quickly?
It could be assumed that the earlier they start flowering, the larger the buds ca be at the time of harvest...

Thanks for helping,

I think it mostly depends on your strain, and also if your growing from seed or clones. Clones are pretty much ready to rock&roll as soon as they get roots, but I say your answer is that it all depends on the stain.

The bigger the change in light schedule, the quicker they flip.
Going from 24/0 to 12/12 makes them start showing flowers in 5-7 days.
In my opinion.

ganja maker has a point about starting from clone or seed, and what strain/strains your running but nutrients also affect the outcome.

ps. budelight how do you have so much karma after only 4 crops ?

I'm always amazed at how fast some of these growers can whip out a harvest; but I credit it to experience in superb handling of their medium and excellent lights. Aren't we lucky they're here willing to share their know-how with us.

Would giving a period of total darkness 48 hours before switching to flowering helps ?
I've read over some forums they prefer to do it.
Any reasons why?

Stress from transplanting plays a big roll in when they are able to trigger. Pulling them out of mid sleep to transplant is one way of keeping the stress down, i like to moisten the bottom layer of soil in the new pot with RO x Superthrive before the plant is placed and backfilled. awsome stuff and organic!

IME stresses and plant probs will set you back. they healthier/stress free plants grow better and finish a lil quicker. plus already sexed clones helps alot

Clones and seedlings are two different ballgames, clones are sexually mature so flower fast. Seedlings may need to crank out some more growth before they can reach maturity. IMO most of it is genetics, my fastest flowering plant bogglegum, the grape pheno, has nice little fluffy tops on day 8. It looks like an average day 14 flowering plant on day 8, while ecsd takes until week 4 to have any meat on her bones. Of course environment can always play a factor, light strength, temps, humidity, medium, nutrients, but the biggest factor of all is genetics. Are you growing out some sativas? Are you growing seedlings? What is your environment like? lighting?

Thanks Tech & Krunchbubble!

Just 9 days ago i flipped my current run into flower.
I kept the light off for 36 hrs giving only darkness and time for the plants to decide their fate.
Most of them decided to be females and im seeing a quicker time than i had been experiencing.

Could their be any negative effects of giving them 48+ (even 72 hrs) ?!?
Just seems so unnatural for the sun to go away for 2-4 days

Go 48 hr dark, -no peeking- at all. Change the nutrients to bloom formula, change my bulb to HPS, go 11/13 for a few days, then 12/12. Ive done this for some time now and I remember I used to get lectured about it.. you'll stress the plants.. blah.. blah.. blah.. I've not had hermie problems etc.. Just plants that wanna show me their girly parts.

Not sure about using 72H, dark. I think this burns out the starch reserves, if I understand the calvin cycle correctly.

Even high N wont stop it.. I've been intentionally been keeping high N to prevent N deff. in stretch, and I did a flip a few days ago and under a week im seeing preflowers. :)
