im going with a 4 camera DVR and IP based system. its gonna be hooked up to a spare PC moniter, and its also iphone compatible. the hard parts gonna be installing these on the back of my house because its pretty high. thats for the camera system. after that its gonna be a DIY alarm system with motion sensors that are installed near the possible breakin points.

im also gonna bolt a board over the bedroom window where my grow is...so even if they smash the glass, theres another obstacle. then as a final touch im gonna install those window bars over the rear rooms that are street level. i want my house to be a fucking fortress!!

Installing a monitored system at an illegal grow? Here's what happens in the event of a burglary...your shit gets stolen, and then you end up arrested.

Camera's are good for letting you know if leo has been sniffing around, but there is no substitute for physical security, ie. bars or security grills on windows, solid door with two or more deadlocks etc. Remember the roof, a lot of burglars break in through the roof. I have 4 infra red cameras in my ceiling to monitor that area. If your cameras are hooked up to a computer you need a separate computer for the cameras, you can't use your existing PC. Thats what the guy at the spy shop told me anyway.
Cameras wont stop people breaking in, they may or may not act as a deterant, by the time someone responds to the alarm they may have been in and out and gone.
I read about a case in the paper here once, a couple of guys burgled a house and then after they had made their getaway they phoned the cops and told them about his grow in the house.

Hey just make sure you know your CODE to turn off the alarm or to activate it lol.
At my shop, my business, i had a huge brain fart when i entered my shop, I have X amount of time to hit the code before the alarm starts raging( i had a huge coffee blowout, with the sweats included). Well, i took a little to long, paniked and boom alarm went soaring. 5min later, 3 coppers at my shop. Had ADT too. Of course this was industrial, so im not even sure how the home ones work in terms of codes and what not.

I have been working on this a lot lately, and have decided that a security system has too many components and needs to be encompassed by a single system.

The one for inside the grow: http://247ecam.com

The exterior system will probably be either a PC-based or standalone DVR, with cameras outside to capture most access routes, equipped with IR LED's for nightvision. The catch is getting this system to upload motion-activated videos directly to an offsite server for review later. Storing any data locally is worthless if the DVR/PC is taken.

How did it work-out? I like the 247ecam. My outdoor grow is about 175' from my house, and there is a metal shop bldg. partially blocking the garden. I have tried many wireless cameras, baby type monitors. Nothing has worked. Wired system is really not an option.

I am looking for a system right now, maybe more.

They make trail camera's that send text/ pictures in real time if its in an area with cell service.

I myself have multiple trail cameras around my cabin, i put tint over the Infrared LEDs so you can barely see them flash at night. I dont have cell service out there, and no one snoops around, but it makes me feel better just incase it ever did happen, i would know who it was.

I feel very secure with my current spot, no phone, power bill, and sattellite TV is in my electricians name too...good luck findin it porkers!

80 pound on site monitoring system, one small up front payment, nominal monthly charges, daily belly rubs and "walkies". Faster response time than ANY offsite monitors, excellent deterrent factor. Everything in house or on property is "hers", and she takes it personally if anyone outside the circle of trust fucks with it.

Yes4Prop215,

Stay away from 'consumer' services if you choose to go monitored. check out local fast food joints, banks, bars and see what 'corporate security' they use. there's usually a sticker at the doors. these companies are usually regional/metro area based, and you want dedicated operators actually in the area and theses places will still be able to customize to your needs reliably on the monitored front. I would only rely on this for my own personal residence where I am a good citizen.

On the other hand, if you are protecting property which if not straight illegal is gray in the eyes of the law, monitored is a terrible idea. Cameras are a terrible bet too in my opinion at this point. Video recordings are video recording forever. Shit happens, plan for the worst. Ok, you got footage of the people that jacked you. Going to call 911? Going to kick his ass? Have fun in jail. Shit happens, plan for the worst. Video truly gains you nothing.

Sensors can text, email alerts to phones. Simply knowing that entry has been made should be enough. Remember anything that funnels through the internet is monitored, good or bad. Better to leave your total exposure to a minimum if youre hot.

My personal approach is that if it's gotten to the point where I need an alarm to alert me/protect my home, I've already fucked up everything up to that point. Security lighting at entries, strategic rose thorn landscaping, trim overgrowth so homes silhouette is well-lit/visible. Dogs inside and outside. 6 foot fencing. Garaged entry only, no carrying ballasts through your front door. Don't invite people into your personal spaces. Stop trusting idiots. Who are the idiots? Everyone except you.

A smoke machine mounted in the ductwork, fill the room(s) with thick smoke in about 30 seconds at the same time all the lights go off, including any wall switch lights, like Aeroguerilla said, they'll be there still when you arrive.

Q-see from costco works good. Email alerts, Iphone, Ipad connectivity.
Love mine. Already caught someone stealing my PH pen. Got it back.

A big dog. As Sam said, people go for easy pickings, and a dog not only bites, it makes noise and attracts attention. Locks are to keep innocent folks innocent.

Putting up a sign saying "Protectected by S&W" or a picture of a gun is not a good idea. It just tells crooks you have valuable guns in your home. All they have to do is watch your house until you leave, then your firearms go bye bye.

You can buy an ADT sign and stick it in your yard. No need to actually get ADT. Most theives see that and move on.

But if someone truly wants your shit, they will get it, ADT, dog, big lock, whatever.

A pro can be in and out of your home before the cops get there, leaving your door busted, your dog dead and your valuables gone.

I had an ADT sales guy come to the door the other day, he asked if I might be interest in a home security system. About that same moment my Great Dane poked her head around me and let out a huff that sounded like a horse snort, then the Standard Poodle shoved his head along side the Dane. The poodle is not as big as the dane but he weighs 90 Lbs. The guy from ADT's eye got the size of pie tins and I said" If you think you can break into my house go for it". He said " No Thanks" and walked away.
My neighbor has a Lab and she had some dudes come into her house and steal two laptops and some other stuff, IT AIN' T GONNA HAPPEN AT MY HOUSE . I defy any scum bag to come in my house period, isn't going to happen the dogs will not allow it. The dane is 140-150 and the Poodle is 90 pounds. ADT can kiss my whoopee...LOL
OH YEAH :smoweed: the dogs love to munch the leaves I GROW gubmint can kiss my ass 2

Not to be a dick brother, but if two dogs with no highly advanced training is the extent of your grow security, I could break in and snag everything with half a slice of salami.
