Very Tiny PC Grow Box - Easy Ryders

Hello all :tiphat:, I've been lurking around for about a year now, and finally put together my first ever pc grow box together, although it is very small. I've seen some grows similar to this size.

Dimensions are very small compared to some of the server tower grows.
13'' height x 13'' length x 6.5'' width.

Temp is stable at 75-80, dependent on time of day. Humidity around 40-50%.

I have 3 fans. 2 exhaust and 1 intake. CFM unknown. I'm using a Truair carbon scrubber/filter for odor later on.

Soil is Gardener's Gold Organic Soil with perlite mixed in, a pH of about 6.5. With Dyna-bloom/grow nutes, and Dr. Earth Organic Teas. Inside is lined with mylar.

Lights are 3, 6500K for veg at 26 watts each and 3, 2700K for flowering at 23 watts each. I have yet to completely lightproof the box, but I will be running 20/4. Lights will be off at night as well.

I am very excited as this is my first indoor grow and to give my pc grow box a test run, I am growing some tomato seedlings that will soon be planted in my outside garden, once they hit about 5 inches in height.

Any advice / tips are welcome. I plan on LST'ing my auto easy ryders, as height is going to be an issue. I think I will only have 7-8 inches of grow room max. This grow will be for only 1 plant at a time as well.

Any advice/tips are appreciated! I will be continuing an update here as I begin to germinate the easy ryder ladies, and hopefully have a successful first run :thank you:

Cab looks clean man, good job! I'm not sure if you'll be using different pots when you get your seeds in there but make sure that you keep the pots themselves opaque - roots hate light! A simple fix is to tape up another cup and put the plant cup in there - that way you get to see the roots grow too :)

Rather than LST, I recon you'll get max yield from a curved scrog. As the CFLs are based in the middle, you could curve the edges of a scrog upwards - thus the outer sides of the scrog recieve the same lumens as the center of the scrog. A sort of flattened U shape if you see what I mean? Doing this would ensure you're getting the maximum possible from your lights.

Other than that man seems like you've got it covered! Looking forward to seeing how the grow goes :)

Thanks Eol. Yea I have some square opaque planters lying around that I will be using for the grow! And the idea for the curved scrog sounds like a great one to me, thanks for that. I'll be searching for something to use as a curved screen/scrog = )

will update with more pics once I germinate the easy ryders!

UPDATE:

Decided to make another pc grow case so I can have a perpetual harvest later on = )

So I decided to finally germinate my easy ryder seed and it sprouted today!!

about 1 cm in height. one of the cotyledons seem to be curved down, but I am guessing that it's due to its recent sprouting up from the soil? I hope that is the case and there is nothing wrong with the seedling. Any thoughts on why that one cotyledon is curved downwards like that? Is my assumption correct?
I thoroughly watered and drained an hour before planting the seed, so I'm going to wait till the top two inches of the soil dries out to water it again.

any advice/input appreciated!

My Grow Journal - Easy Ryder 1st ever PC GROW:
3/28/2012: Wet paper towel method of germination has begun. Fully watered and prepared the planter and drained with pH balanced water.
3/30/2012: Observed Germination and taproot has appeared, planted into pot. Saran wrapped planter. Temperature varies from 77-81 degrees Fahrenheit.
4/01/2012: Sprout has come up for the first time from the soil about 1/4''. Removed saran wrap. Checked soil, top 2 inches still fairly moist. Will water when top 2 inches becomes dry. Temperature with door closed is 75F with 43% R/H.

Hi! Looks really neat. I will be following this thread for sure! I have a pc grow box project going on myself at the time. And my box is almost the same size as yours. Though I have only 1 fan (which is for exhaust) but still I think it's a bit too noisy. Does yours make a lot of noise?? I tried to put a filter in front of the fan and it did help to quieten it down but then the temp jumped too high so I had to take it off.

Here's a picture. Mine is a own cross between a female Easyryder and a male White Russian. 3 weeks old, just unveiled herself as a female couple of days ago.

And don't stress about some curved down cotyledons... Just forget them for a day or two for a once or a while. Let the soil dry out well berofe every watering. It's a weed, you'll be amazed how fast the speed of their growth increases every day. :good:

Good to hear paga! The breeder is joint doctor's lowryder strains. I got my seeds from attitude seedbank as well. Let me know when you sprout yours so I can follow = ) goodluck

Thanks Tuco! Your lady is looking great as well. Glad to hear that she turned out to be female = ) hope mine does too... My fans dont make that much noise as I got some really quiet 120mm fans.

For your filter, are you having the fan pull or push the air? I recommend having the fan pull air thru the filter, Pushing is a lot harder than pulling on the fan so you end up with more air circulation pulling. And maybe add one more exhaust to really get that negative pressure going in your case?? Might help with the temps too if you decide to put filters on both of them.

Make a journal so we can all follow. I always enjoy following other grows, especially pc grows.

I'm too lazy to make a journal. My filter was indeed in front of the fan so it was pushing air through it. I'll have to try it the other way, thanks for the tip! :tiphat:

by the way.. how are you planning to pinch and cut your plants? That's what I've been worrying for the most, after all our boxes are quite small. I've grown easyryder a few times before outdoors and they've always been about 1 m (over 3 ft) in height and very dense plants. Until now everything has went great and is under control. I've cut the plant once and then there's some tying and bending been going on.

no problem tuco glad that I could help, for the height/space issue I'm planning on doing what this guy did by planting from one side you can LST them towards the other side. Simple yet effective imo. --> http://forum.grasscity.com/micro-grows/958449-mrbear2point8s-pc-bagseed-grow.html

and what this guy did --> http://forum.grasscity.com/micro-grows/1014786-djsid666-featuring-edna-easyryder-dnb-remixes.html

MrBear's grow turned out very well, and it isn't a lowryder, he was probably growing a sativa/indica hybrid strain as well.

Haha! I can't believe it cloud9! We have totally identical grows going on at the moment! Thats what I've been practicing also, you can't see it so well at the picture which I posted earlier but my plant is planted on the other side of the pot and bended towards the other side. I had actually two plants at start but the other one was a male so it had to go.

nice! I actually wouldn't mind a male so I could get pollen and make my own seeds!

But still female would be for the best heh.

Anyways, it's officially day 8 since sprouting but she seems to be a little slow.. any thoughts?? heres an update with pics:

healthy

she's healthy so your OK.
the mix looks dry and you got enough perlite.
your going fine.

im doing 3 Easy Ryders atm (in DWC so not the same type of grow)
how big is that pot she is in?
too much soil and she will get too big for the case.

dont be fooled by the Auto tag these things grow bigger than your PC case. Mine are 2 foot tall and still stretching.:)
