Houston we have a problem....

It would be far, far better for you to make your current holes BIGGER, rather than just drilling (many more) small holes. And like everyone else has mentioned, pics would enable us to help you much faster/efficiently.

If you look at Blynxs micro cabinet it's pretty close to that except the exaust is coming out the upper right side of box instead of of the ceiling and my lights are on power strip wit three y splitters. And eight holes on the bottom for passive intake.

Any update on your problem? Reading through this I have a feeling your fan is just not strong enough to move enough air.

Hey Herb thanks for checking in! Well thaught things were good the other day I put a piece of paper over thermometer to shade it but it was temps 65 degrees inside so 10+degree difference had a cold front roll through. Had the 6 23 watters going last couple days and it got to 91 ,so unscrewed two. I'm getting close to posting some pics hopefully tomorrow. Plant looks really healthy Ive topped her once an transplanted to her final resting place. Oh I think you have to be right about the fan.

Am I correct? You are heating a box with lights. Using fan(s) to heat your closet from the box, then trying to use the heated air in the closet to cool the inside of the box where you are generating heat?

I would at least try to put that fan up higher to duct the air away from the bottom of the cab as much as possible because I think you're getting some of that hot air drawn right back inside. And it may not be possible for you to upgrade at the moment but I still think that fan doesn't have the pulling power to do what it needs to do. Another idea would be to actually mount the fan on the interior and push it through the ducting. I think you might get more CFM out of it that way. I really don't have any experience with those PC fans though so I'm just guessing here.

It's a nice cab though so good work. You just need some fine tuning is all.

Yes cabs in the closet with the door open the exaust fan and hose was all caulked up attached towards the top of cab before these problems. Unfortunately fixing as I go, I had the cab in another room open on tile and temps stayed the same. Thanks for thr reply!

Thanks Herb I think you are right, I hope anyway I dont think the fan is exhausting enough I'm gonna try a different one, I have seen some that others have used twice the cfm's at the same db rating. I would think the intake should be o.k....??

I think the intakes are sufficient. Is noise a big concern? Depending on funds available I would go for a centrifugal 4" fan on a speed controller and mount it on the inside to help keep the noise down. If you feel you won't have the room you could mount it on the outside in an insulated box if you feel it's too noisy. Typically the majority of noise is most often created by the air exiting the duct though. Depending on your situation you could always look at punching a hole in a wall, the roof, or ceiling to push the warm air out and to control where the noise from moving air is made. Just some thoughts.

If you're able to and feel comfortable making holes you could try it with your current fan to see if it helps getting the heat out of the immediate area. I'm doubtful it would make a difference though at this point. With the door closed can you put a piece of paper on one of your intake holes and have it hold in place?

Yes noise is a concern want it as stealth as possible, the exaust area was going to be sealed off eventually . And no way am I getting that much air to suck a sheet of paper now or before, you can barely feel the air being sucked in.My wife would shoot me if I put a hole in the wall so that would be last resort.

You don't want to anger the wife unit. :D

I've always used the the paper test as my general rule of thumb for negative intake on my cabs/rooms. If it doesn't hold a piece of paper on the intake then it's not enough.

Hey Art, nice lookin' cab you've got going there! I had similar problems as yours when I was running a 250 hps in a closet. I was battling heat problems the whole time.

If there's any way to exhaust the hot air out of the closet, do that. I ended up mounting a big desk fan to shoot the hot air up and out of my old closet. This worked, kind of, but it was loud.

Another problem you're gonna run into is with your future scrubber. Axial PC fans don't have the static pressure to push/pull much air against resistance so expect the temp to jump up a few degrees. Even your ducting with the curve in it probably reduces the performance of your PC fan by half. If you must use PC fans, get a couple with good static pressure ratings (noctua, scythe gentle typhoon) and piggyback them together. This doubles the pressure so you'll get closer to the rated CFM of the fan. You can also go the opposite route and get some Delta high RPM axial fans. They have good pressure ratings though they're notoriously loud and will chop the skin off your fingers if you're not careful! Might want to get a speed controller for those...

The best solution is to separate your lighting somehow and exhaust it separately. This is difficult to do with CFLs. A 70w hps might be easier to cool with a cooltube.

Just some thoughts, good luck! Who said CFLs didn't put out heat?? :D

First off let me say thanks to everyone this is by far the best site on the net! I have a new cabinet dimensions are 17x17x30 so fom my calculations around 8 cubic feet? Thanks Art out.

5.017 cu ft. is what I get, if those dimensions are inches (you didn't say).
