I've pulled potted plants out of the flowering room to cull. Placed them in the shower stall in a windowless bathroom with closed door to deal with later. Then had to leave town for two weeks. I was amazed at how well they looked after this time period.

I have had my hydrofarm ballast go belly up...it is a mess when that happens.

I am going to be buying a back up ballast for just an occasion.

I find it hard to believe to be 100% honest.

how is that hard to believe? :dunno:

anyway....here is how it went down

1st had a poweroutage that lasted 3 days due to high wind and down lines.

power surged back on a couple times before staying on (should have had the ballast un-plugged)....but had no light.

thought it was a bulb, so replaced w/ one of my backups....didn't fire.....went and got a new bulb the next day....didn't fire (up to 4 days now).

checked the fuse on the ballast (should have done 1st)...it was blown. replaced the fuse w/ the spare (lumatek 600 watt ballast from about 5 yrs ago), and all is good.

i had out of town business the 5 days after the fuse change, and got home to no light...so i have to assume that they were in the dark the whole time i was gone.......(up to 10 days now)

called literally 30 places for a 10amp/250 volt glass midget fuse....finally found 2 at a hydro store 50 miles away......went and picked them up....dude gave them to me free.

i had a suspicion at this point that i was just gonna blow these too....and sure enough right off the bat both were done. (i used a new powerstrip, and eliminated the timer, and a new outlet) w/ the last 2 fuses...so i know the ballast is done now.

called to get a new ballast held for me, and picked it up yesterday....so around 12 days in all)

it wouldn't have been so bad if i didn't have to leave town, but there was nothing i could do regarding that....i can buy thousands of spare ballasts now if i wanna.

....and i did have a spare, but it's on loan to a friend in another state....so pretty much not mine anymore.

they really didn't suffer much, all the budsites are white/yellow from lack of light, but they will come around quick....ive had quite a few extended dark cycles in my 17+ years of growing

i've had waaaaaaay too much going on these days to concentrate on my grows....won't happen in the future tho

Nokuy, This won't cause hermies? Or you are just gonna ride it out?

I have blown out many ballasts in my approx. 15 years of growing and one thing stands true. I have never blown one out on 240v.

Not to say I havent gone through tons of caps buying used ballasts like I do, but I have never burned out a ballast (core and coil) on 240 only on 120. guy told me it was because exuipment is made to run on 220 and when you make it run on 120 it has to work like twice as hard, which is why it gets hotter and is more succeptible to blowing

it shouldn't cause hermies.....i didn't really interrupt the long ass dark cycle.

i know it's stress, and that it prolly "could"....but i'm expecting them to be better in the end than if they didn't have the stress

...and good lookin out on runnin on 240

yea i guess when you inherit a million dollars who cares if the grow goes to shit...you can always pay for some good herb!!

those plants are done...i would hire a naked girl cull them, bag them up, and then transplant a new batch. no need to get your fingers dirty when you can sit back in a hot tub counting all that cash money lmao...

you should talk to me about properly investing your money in some property..

Wait, 7.8 mil? I thought you were getting 200K a year off the interest of your trust. That means you're getting roughly 2.5% RoR on your trust? Either something's fishy or it's time for your family to look for a new fund manager...

a.

there are ways you can invest all of that money and just live on investments...

if you have kids set them up with some properties that they can either collect cash flow on or cash out on to buy cocaine and trips to vegas when your dead...

or if you dont have kids...fuck it blow it all. i will be your liason and get you anything you need, want a boatfull of bitches wearing fuzzy chipmunk suits? done. need somebody buried in the mountains? no problem.

don't want my own disp.....no way......too much headache.

ill just be happy to keep growing my own....i don't really smoke much anyway...but i like my gear way more than OTC stuff.

....also on the trust 2 mil of the 7.8 is tied up in "company x" stock for 18 mnths....
then i can keep or cash out and ad to the trust or bank it....but it will go into the trust because that money is protected....savings are not.

the 2 plants is all that is growing right now...1 blockhead, and 1 sour diesel...some blockhead/sd seeds could be nice

I'm really starting to doubt the whole conventional wisdom of light leaks/ lights out = hermies to the extent that some people believe.
My closet have a veg shelf w/ 24 on and I leave my closet door open during flower hours to get more air in there and on occasion I forgot to close it for an hour and up to 3 on one lights out period with no hermies or any ill effects at all with a 150 watt flouro blasting away above the flower area below.
I wouldn't recommend pushing your luck but I don't think plants are as sensitive as some people think unless I'm just lucky to have really stable strains.
This is more odd since everything is from femmed seeds and clones and the story goes that fems are more prone to herms than regular seeds.

Like I said, maybe I'm just lucky to not to have to pay a stupid tax with unintentional seedy weed.

thats about what i would expect. yellowed plants. i've had plants i left in the dark, houseplants mainly. they don't really start dying till they run out of food or water.
