ya once you get some good breeding stock you can make some seeds. I have pp,Qurkel,GDP,The White, that I will be chucking with :) I keep a few hundred seeds and send the rest to the bay for the surver fund or freebies... I always make sure that I dont do 1:1 crosses like PP X PP. I have made these but cant send them into the bay. IMO it would be like disrespecting Kaiki since he sales PP seeds and sending in f2 pp seeds seems disrespectful to me.

DHF, ANTI, and anyone else.

Google this.

"Jbonez marijuana passion"

Ive been around, just not on ICMag...

DHF

NO DOUBT!

And none taken!

My situation is "unique" to say the least...

Big shot grower, teacher, guy you go to for advice.. that was me at one point in time....... "what up atl" lol.

anywho, I dont grow in my home, not anymore because of my wife, and only because of my wife...

So.... whats a greenthumb to do?

What I do best, and that is teach the fundamentals to as many of those that would have me. I take their harvests for the first few runs, the grows are ran by me until I leave em to get on their own..

please keep reading.

The next grow is being setup "at a friends" and yes, plenty of pics to come. Ive left a forum over this topic, I wish those guys would check out DHF, maybe they wouldnt be so skeptical?

I call grows I supervise mine, I "released" the grower in the pic about 8 months ago, hes on his own, so its hard to dial the grow to my specs.

However, this next one is under my full tutelage, ergo, its my grow. I accept any and all criticism for it as well....

I was on a "hiatus" of sorts, and am working to get back to my own spot.... tired of teaching and watching my genetics perform for other growers.

So backpeddling has now become clarification, and I can further answer any questions.

I am here to get better, but their is little doubt about my capabilities...

At this point, and once I dial the new setup, DHF may be the one to take me to the next level....
Always hereta help....

Peace...DHF.....:ying:.....

I would imagine this would be the best place to ask this?
Have you guys learned from doing this, have any of you gone back to using a reflector.
Do you prefer a cool tube or just open air?
Also is a 600w HPS able to perform alright or do you need a 1000w to make the best of this type of lighting?

I've checked out some great threads like Indoor Vertical Grow Systems 101
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=189454

I started vertical after doing two grows with a cheap reflector and 400W HPS.
It created hot spots and a lot of heat. The reflector I was looking at(adjust-a-wing+ heat spreader) is more than 100 euro's.
Two vert grows later I still don't feel like paying for a decent reflector :) solid yields, all buds are close to the light so no small buds, you do need to train the plants well.
It's also easier to grow different size strains together this way, you don't need to move the lamp up, raise smaller plants etc.

I do a little training, funny tho, our best yields were from untopped christmas tree shaped plants.

anyone else have this experience, I was topping and supercropping, but the plants got top heavy it seemed, DHF, this is something you could chime in on, Id like to hear what you would do in this sitch..

D

DHF

Never topped a plant in my life cuz it stunts the fuck out of em and causes recovery time that adds time to rotations , and that`s why your Xmas tree shaped plants were your best harvey`s JB.....

ALWAYS trimmed , shaped , and pruned my plants for the perfect xmas tree-shaped sideways canopy...but....never cut the main stems ta cause em ta grow sideways instead of up......Bad juju IME........

I've been running 4k hoods and 1k vert down the center, for a couple of years with pretty good results. i run 6 plants in 7 gal soil for a 6week and veg 9 weeks flower and average 7lbs for over a year now.
I'm thinking of trying a mh bulb in my vert bulb spot. does any one think i could benifit from this or am i wasting my time?

as you can see i like to supercrop

thata boy.... nice when you got the room huh... show em how its done brother! ever just run the vert??? Id hang all them bulbs in a basement like a tic tac toe... Youd yield more..

swing by my thread anytime...+rep

Not sure on the MH, I wouldnt, difference of 30k in lumens I believe, I know that wont make or break, but hell, it wont hurt much..

D

DHF

Krusty always swore by puttin a 1KW MH in the middle of the "X" patterns of bulbs for the increased difference in color spectrum since all 4 plants in a perfect 10 x 10 were gettin lumens from 3 bare bulbs at all times ftw.....and yeah...

MH bulbs are lower on lumen output and that`s why I always opted for the EYE Horti`s in 600`s cuz I could only burn so much wattage per month in Hell....

All about the dialage.......

Peace...DHF....:ying:......

yeah i thought about runnin all vert bulbs but didn't know where to put them since my plants get so big, there's really no other place to put them exept above them. thats probably the only reason I'm not totally vert yet. i think if my room was 10x10 i could pull it off but it's only 8x10

yeah i wasn't sure if a mh would help but thought i would ask. some of you guy's got some great insite and knowledge to feed off. thanks for your help

Here's my setup

This is a SSH x NH cross (Beanho) which yields pretty well I think. I don't really keep track of all the numbers so I can't say how much exactly, certainly nowhere near the big numbers being claimed here. I am probably around 1 GPW, maybe a bit higher...and I know there's a lot of room left for improvement. Look at all that empty space I could fill in. So I can definitely believe the claims of 3-4 lbs per light, esp with the right strain and someone experienced in vert growing.

I run a continuous cycle, and can't imagine trying to do it any other way. Things just work so much more smoothly when you are rotating plants in and out continuously. As you can see I use a hanging system which enables me to easily adjust each plant to the perfect height and position, for maximum light absorption, or to move plants around so I can work. Since I can reach under the plants it's easy to put plants underneath the lights and capture that wasted light. (Look how big of a plant I grew from it!)

When a plant is nearing completion I pull it out and put it in the back, to make room for another from the veg room. It's kinda like a pizza oven; you can put stuff closer or further away from the fire depending on the plant's needs. A vegging/early flowering plant needs strong direct light, but one finishing off can do OK with less, it just matures a bit slower. Well worth it to open up those extra slots.

Stretch is not a problem in my setup. In this tent I can easily grow any kind of strain I want side by side without problem. I make sure each plant's top remains under the reflector plane during the stretch period, to discourage stretch, then afterwards I find its best to raise the top of the plant higher to expose more of the lower plant to light. I also find it beneficial to rotate the plants once or twice during flower, ensures more even development all around and greatly reduces the amount of popcorn you get. This is a must IMO, unless you do heavy trimming, which I avoid.

I can see the pics.
I like how you made those reflectors :) been thinking about it myself, one above and one under the lamp, but my designs reduce airflow a lot so I'm putting it off until I get a genious idea :p

Here is my thought on it.

If you are lazy, have a dirty grow area or don't clean your reflectors, DON'T USE THEM.

You will end up with dirty glass blocking MORE than all these cute little images above try and talk down on light percentages etc.

I noticed that as I used reflectors I didn't keep up with cleaning my glass on my reflectors OR filtering the air within the room/cabinet/tent to stop dirt, dust etc from getting to my reflector glass.

I decided that due to me not having a sealed lighting systemw that would eliminate all dust from entering I should only grow without glass, now reflectors themselves I LOVE batwing style or running bare vertical bulbs and will NOT go back.

I like reflectors but think adding glass to them is a complete opposite of what someone is trying to achieve unless they can keep that reflector glass CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and most if not all can't accomplish that, trust me LOL it aint that easy.

bare bulb

or glassless reflectors are the way to go.

Aren't you the guy who made those reflector out of some kind of plastic material? We all tried to inform you that was a major BAD idea because of off-gassing fumes the plants would transpire not too mention the fire hazard if that plastic "reflector" get too hot? Dude you can obviously grow weed, put a crowbar to your wallet and get some kind of METAL reflector if you want to use one, the ones your using look a LOT like poster board and I once worked in a print shop and those off-gas chemicals JUST sitting on the shelf......I would hate to read a thread where your whole house (or rental unit) burned to the ground or god forbid, someone was hurt or worse due to fire!

Just my two cents feel free to flame me!

Yeah, I do remember a legion of stupid asses shitting all over my thread with their dire warnings of impending doom. To hear you tell it, my grow room was mere seconds away from being engulfed in flame and instantly burning down the entire neighborhood. I also heard all kinds of bullshit about "oh there's no point to that, that doesn't do anything" etc from other small minded people with no capacity for big picture thinking. No amount of persuasion, or logical reasoning, or patient explanation would sway this legion of white knights from their noble quest of shaming me into removing those goddamn reflectors.

Well, it's been well over a year since I put those reflectors up...and guess what....the mother fuckers are still hanging exactly where I left them! Unbelievably, they haven't spontaneously caught fire...it seems the damn things actually require a source of ignition first! It's madness I tell you, objects that obey the laws of physics and behave as our models predict them to. Someone should write a book about this!

Dude you can obviously grow weed, put a crowbar to your wallet and get some kind of METAL reflector if you want to use one,

Here's a better idea: don't start this stupid safety nazi bullshit again, and mind your own fucking business please.

the ones your using look a LOT like poster board and I once worked in a print shop and those off-gas chemicals JUST sitting on the shelf

What? You're telling me that I might be in the vicinity of a piece of paper which offgasses "chemicals"? OH FUCKING NOES! Next you'll be telling me that the "new car smell" is Volatile Organic Compounds offgassing! Excuse me while I run to my bunker to hide in fear!

Just my two cents feel free to flame me!

How was that? :wallbash:
