TUCSON - An unmanned aircraft helped to locate 26 suspected narcotics smugglers near the border last night - agents responded, located 24 bundles of marijuana, and apprehended 26 people.
The drone, from the Customs and Border Protection's Office of Air and Marine, detected 26 suspected narcotics smugglers near the international boundary, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection. An ATV unit from the Border Patrol's Ajo Station responded, and along with other CBP air assets, located 24 bundles of marijuana and apprehended 26 individuals.
The marijuana and smugglers were transported to the Ajo Station for processing, the release states. The marijuana, weighing 1,200 pounds and worth about $600,000, will be turned over to the DEA. The 26 adult male Mexican nationals face possible federal charges.
