Canna Coco nute question

ok,

This is going to sound silly, but, I have a reason for asking.

I was talking to a Canna Rep, and he was saying that he/they do not recommend aerating their nute lines. He was stating all lines, but since I am in coco for first time, using their coco a/b, that is why I am asking here..

I ASSUME he was wrong, but figured I would come here and ask..

Do you guys using Canna aerate your rez? or just use a water mover/pump with no bubbles.

I was so confused by him saying not to, I couldn't even remember his reasoning why...like maybe it causes issues with the nute stability, or, ph, or ....

Im guessing he was just a typical uniformed Rep, spewing nonsense at the hydro shop for all to hear...?

Thanks,

Z

He's an idiot.
I use the whole canna coco line and have two air stones as well as water pumps recirculating everything in all my 60 gallon resis...
Never had an issue

well with canna coco a+b you should no aerate the rez as it makes the ph totally unstable. you really dont need any air stones, pumps or chillers with coco growing, thats part of the beautiful elegance. if you find your ph staying stable while you aerate the rez, go ahead and do so, it will sure not be negative. but if you find the ph acting up like most people do when they aerate a tank of canna coco nutrient solution, better forget about it. in fact why bother, i never have in all my years of growing with coco. not after trying it and finding out that the ph was climbing through the roof every few hours after adjusting it again, till i took the air stone out.

Canna a/b does not have a problem being airated in my setup. I do it 24x7. Have been using canna for a long while now. Ph is absolutely stable. I know this because my reservoir has a dedicated and installed meter.

im sure it would be fine either way, but i personally dont aerate. i just use a pump with a hose and hand water, and ill let the rez run for a few mins in the tank before watering the plants , my plants dont seem to have any problemz with this method :joint:

Thanks for the reply, i actually sent a question to Canna figuring that I would never hear back, and they also agree with you.. They said that it can cause ph instability, and that they recommend mechanical stir, or water mover pumps only.

So, I will do just that..If I'm watering at least every day oxygen levels should be more than fine in coco, and I'll just drop my water pump in there to keep things moving.

Thanks!!

thanks again for all the input!!

I now have a follow up...

with coco nutes is it fine to fill up a 50 gallon rez with all the nutes in it, ph it, and then just let the water pump move water around, and feed my girls off of that rez all week?

I also was told that you don't want to treat coco nutes like hydro nutes, and that you want to mix them up the day you are going to feed, and not have them sitting a rez for days on end...

Thanks for helping a coco noob.

you only need to stir the tank when you mix the nutes andph minus etc. then just let it sit, specially with drip irrigation you get more then enough air to the roots. the only pump i have in my tank is the one that pump water to the plants. for the rest the tank is just empty and stands there for about 6 days till its nearly empty, then i just refill.

i am surprised that there are people using air stones in the canna a and b nutrient solution without ph problems. but i guess it will depend on the starting ph of your water too, to some extent. but like i said if it's working then you can safely do it lol. i have learned that there are very few absolutes with growing, there are so many different things that have an influence.
