ICMag p90x - Group 1, March 5th-June 3rd 2012

I am guy who has been an athlete most of my life with a about a 10 year period of "nothing" where I gained 70 lbs and turned into fatty Mcfat ass. Turned that around in 2008 and back to fighting weight and 7-8% body fat. My problem is my body is wrecked from years of too hard training, rough sports when younger, and owning a landscape and tree service company in my twenties before going back to school. I hurt when I exercise, but hurt more when I dont. Its pain in the knees, lower back, and shoulders.

I havent been training since October of last year so I am easing into p90x. I am going to do half workouts...in order...for the first ten days...then "start over" for the actual 90 days at full stregth on the "classic" program. I am fit enough to do it, but I am just out of shape enough to know I need about 10 days to knock the rust off before I drop the hammer. So that is what I have been doing for three days. So far I like it, and it is hitting a few areas that I know need it.

LOL...hindu/dive bomber push-ups...they are so fucking effective, and I hate em...my right shoulder...halfway, about at the point where you pick your head up under the fence, feels like someone threw shards of hot molten metal in my shoulder socket. In addition...plyo's are hard for me....Im 6'2" and 210, and about 10% body fat...my knees hate tony.

ehhhh...all that pain is just weakness leaving the body right?

Onward! This is great to be able to share this with my ic family!

Thought I would add...I tried insanity about a month ago. Fucking retarded for me. First workout...made it 16 minutes...had to stop...then about five minutes after stopping "blechhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" puked.

Tried the next day...made it 20 minutes...blechhhhhhhh.

Not the right fit for me...hated it.

holy shit>>> ive been reading through the meal plan for p90x. jesus christ. its like a full time job just to eat on this plan. sounds like its going to cost a fucking fortune to. everything is halibut, shirmp stir frys and steak salads...

when it comes to food i dont know shit. i want to follow this plan fully but i think i need to hire me a little mexican lady to come prepare all these meals... but since im getting ready for the move to the hills ((and complete seclusion besides my dogs...) any advice?? has anyone read through the nutrition plan? is there like a list i can just take to the store or do i need to go through each recipe, meal, snack and write every fucking thing down? i can handle the work outs>> but if im a put all this energy into p90x i dont want to bunk out because im still eating the wrong stuff.. but this food thing.. damn.

You can totally follow that meal plan if you'd like, but it sounds like it will be a bitch. Lemmy hit the basics for ya and with this info you can pretty much make meals as you see fit using ingredients you prefer.

So firstly, you need at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight a day to maximize muscle gains from workouts like this. Some might say more.

It's best to get it throughout the day so your recovering body has a constant supply, so get some immediately after you wake up and just before you go to bed.

http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

From there, you just need to figure out your calorie budget for the day using a calculator like the one above, and keep track of your general intake, assuming you don't want to gain weight or even lose weight during the program.

So, you will know how many grams of protein you need, and how many calories you can intake total. From there you can budget your meals to include the protein, and distribute the rest of the calories between fiber sources like veggies and complex carbohydrates which you can get a list of below.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/27398-list-complex-carbohydrates-foods/

Also, this site and others like it will give you the nutrition facts for just about anything you can eat at a restaurant or buy in the store -
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calorie-chart-nutrition-facts

This is a really deep topic, but if you just work along those lines and let the math be your guide, you'll see solid gains.

diets are quite a cutomized thing, not every diet is right for every person

I could not for the life of me gain muscle mass until I started eating tons of carbs. Doesn't make any sense, to me anyways since everyone always says you need lots of protien to build muscle.

My metabolism was really high back then though, so I might have just needed the extra calories, I think when I started eating more (healthy) carbs, my daily calories were between 5000 to 5500. I could scarf down some food on my days off, but most of that was consumed gradually over the course of a day eating like 6-7 times, mini-meals.

Off to do my plyometrics. I am sore as hell from chest/back yesterday. It has been years since I have done any type of strength routine and I can feel it today. Not giving up this time!

Man I feel great after plyo! well, beat up but in a great way :biglaugh: Figures I miss the first day and start with one of the more cardio intense ones :smoke:

my knee was sore as hell before I worked out so I took a few rips of my Honey White F2 and then bam no more pain and the hour went by like nothin'.

I'ma try and keep up with you gentlemen, I gave up last month when I tried p90x... Hopefully doing it as a group I will be able to hold myself to it.

I'm so pumped yet so scrawny and in need of shape! This is an awesome pre-set/determined workout plan and even cooler to have a thread to keep up on. I am totally in!

Heh I didn't make it to the end of the plyo video yesterday. Felt like I was going to die after 40 min or so and legs so beat I could feel my form beginning to slip on the exercises.

Knew the cardio was my weak spot, but damn, p90x exposed it quick :D

I've been doing pull ups on rafters but I move soon to new spot what's a good pull up station for weight over 200? Most of them seem janky as shit unless you under 6foot / 170lb
