I just got one of these put together and it will not fire up.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Not sure what is up.

It is plugged in.

Thanks!

i've bought 6-16 bulb units from badboy. every single one of them has given me issues. (i.e. rows of lamps not firing up...)

What was your solution to getting them working? Did you have to send them back? I gotta get this thing working like ASAP. Thanks!

Did you flip the little switch on the side? Are the bulbs in tight? Are you sure there is power to the outlet that you are using?

No there are only 2 switches for each 4 lamps. I'm just really bummed about this. I can't believe this thing will not turn on.

All the wires looked to be connected.

i realized is the way they fold them up sometimes when you unfold them, it's real fucking easy to pinch and sever wires. on every single one of mine i pinched the same wire. effectively disconnecting one of the ballasts. so 1 bank of lights wouldn't turn on. i'm extremely disappointed in this product to be honest. for the money, i'd go ahead and buy 600 w regular lamps.

not to mention their customer service blows...i'm just being honest here. go ahead and read my past posts. i usually don't bash on the companies i buy stuff from, but in this case i will make an exception...

I've never had my hands on one, but..... do you have a meter or voltage tester and know how to use it? Have you tried plugging something else into that receptacle and made sure it is hot? Are all of the lamps non-functional or just certain groups?

Have you pulled off the covers and checked all of the connections? Sometimes the push-in connections on fluoro end-terminals make shitty contact. I don't know how many are in series with the BB, but try lightly tugging on each connection to make sure that the connection is good.

Hey, thanks guys. I figured it out and got it to work. Evidently I did not have the lamps seated correctly. I feel like a real idiot. Oh well.

These things are junk for the most part. I much prefer my regular 8 lamp hydrofarm units. More versatile, feel high quality, and cheaper.

I did notice however that you need to assemble the bigger units from the outside working in. The 1st time I put together a 16 lamp I tightened from the middle outwards..but once I got to the end my t5s didnt quite reach properly to make a good connection.

The solution was to install a lamp in each end to get the unit square and tight... and then tighten and assemble reflectors from the outer lamps inwards.

Well, they are really light-weight and cheaper to ship. But you're correct about the set-up; a pain in the ass.

The price was much better that's why I went with these.

I got the 8 light unit. It's going in the Veg room today.

i bought a few 8 bulb units and within 3 months 1 went out.
they have 2 ballasts in them, a fullam workhorse 7 and a 5 I think.
i just bought the new ballasts and had it shipped in 3 days
for $50. using the warranty you have to ship the unit out to get it fixed
it was still under warranty and in use with a load of plants under it.
guess how long it takes to get it back
i now have a back up ballasts handy in case of a shut down.
aloong with an xtra 1000 ballast, back up bulbs and anything else that can cause a big headache if its down for a week or whatever.

t-5s w/6500K bulbs are the bomb for seedlings and plants
up to 12"-16"
i had to keep a 1/2 dozen under T5s for an xtra 2 weeks due to scheduling issues in the bloom room.
they went to 24" and still looked good
i bought a 6bulb unit in 2010 when i started the indoor thing.
the plants looked so good I added 3 more 8 bulb units.

The Sun System Sun Blaze T5 comes with Spectralux bulbs and is a great value for what you are getting. I tend to recommend the Sun System New Wave T5 with the GE Starcoat bulbs for a premium setup, and will only sell BadBoys to people who ask for them.
