1k Light+Fan->Powerstrip->Timer?

Can i plug in 1 1000watt light and a fan into a powerstrip then into my timer? The light says it uses 9.5amps the fan doesnt use much.15 amp timer. As long as im under 80% load i should be ok right?

Correct me if im wrong please. Thanks.

I guess im trying to be cheap on a plug in thermometer.

Yeah you will be all set... I'de get one of the heavy duty power boxes though just to feel better about it ;P Belkin sells some decent ones at home depot for like 30$

You mean thermostat? Yeah, I basically did the timer thing because I was taking the easy way out, too. I have a cooltube ducted pulling air out of the room, but it's taking air from inside the garden. I also have a wall fan that's on all the time, but the light's fan is plugged into a dual-outlet timer.

The 80% load rule is for the circuit breaker feeding the entire circuit. Very few plug strips are capable of safely handling 12 amps continuously (.8x15a), or even the load from your 1k light. You would be better off with an extension cord that has multiple outlets (the "duck-foot" style") or build one yourself - it's pretty simple to put a 2-gang box with two receptacles on the end of a decent extension cord and get four outlets.

Similar warnings apply to your timer. If you have one of the cheap digital or mechanical timers, it isn't going to last with that load. An Intermatic T-101 would better serve you.
